Xbox one controller stops working

hello,

I have purchased many xbox controllers in my days of gaming due to wear and tear. My most recent one about 4 months ago, just stopped working. I've never had this issue. I have been extremely careful not to drop it or anything to make it last cause they
aren't cheap. I was playing fortnite the night before went to bed woke up to play again and the controller just wouldn't work. I've tried resetting my xbox, changing settings with my wired controller, everything I've read online I've tried. And with the controller
being out of warranty I'm out of luck :\ randomly after giving up on it I tried to turn it on tonight and it turned on, of course i got excited and went to play a game and then it shut off again and wouldn't turn back on. For it to turn back on for a couple
minutes make think it could be fixed but idk where to even begin. Any feedback please help.

Xbox One Controller Stops Working

Wondering if anyone has this problem, randomly when playing any game (has happened on 3 different games) some of my controller buttons stop working. Specifically both bumpers, the d pad, and X. Every time. Yes I actually bought another controller thinking
the problem was going to be fixed, yet it occurs on both controllers. Now the issue resolves itself and everything goes back to normal AFTER I power down the Xbox. This problem occurs nearly every time I play over an hour straight. Anyone have a permanent
fix for this?

Usually if you get the same results when you try connecting the control via usb aswell as new batteries it means one of the 2 main circuit boards has become faulty in the controller.

Unfortunately microsoft will only replace controllers upto 90 days from original purchase, after 90 days you would have to replace it yourself as microsoft do not actually repair the controllers.

Troubleshoot The Xbox One Controller. If after performing all troubleshooting steps and the device still isn't working at 100% capacity then I recommend
Contacting Customer Support

Hi Alicia,

To clarify, when you say your controller doesn’t power on - do you mean the LED light is just flashing and won’t properly sync/connect, or it doesn’t power on at all with no light?

Please also confirm the exact Xbox model you’re experiencing this issue with, just to be more specific with troubleshooting. Is this the Xbox One S or the newer Xbox Series S? Either way, you would have the updated and more recent Xbox controller with built-in Bluetooth support (version 1708) if you’re using the original one that came with your console.

Or if it’s only a connection issue (flashing light), then refer to:

If this persists, especially after trying new batteries and even multiple USB cables, then unfortunately it’s most likely a hardware fault in which the controller would need to be replaced:

If you purchased this controller around a month ago, then it should still be within warranty as this is usually 90 days - this can vary depending on your country/region though. If it is within warranty, which you can verify on the link above, replacements are free.
