Xbox One Controller stopped working with standard headset and stereo headset

First off as an unrelated note I looked through the support page and tried to re-update my controller attempting to fix my issue. It tells you to go to
Settings > System > Update Controller. This is wrong, it should be updated to
Settings > Device & accessories >Xbox One Wireless Controller.

Now on to my issue: I recently bought the Xbox One stereo headset. I installed it on all three of my controllers. Unfortunately it does not work on my favorite one of them all. So on the other two controllers the headset installed and worked fine. On my
Titanfall controller it installed correctly but when I plugged it in it did not work. I was unable to hear and also no one heard me. When I was playing a game it did not even register that I had a headset in (looking at the scoreboard people had a speaker
by their name)

I even tried to plug my original headset in that came with the console and it no longer worked. The controller was working fine with my old headset until I updated.

I tried to re-update but it just says that my controller does not need to be updated when I force the update.

I don't want to send this in as it is a limited edition controller.

Any suggestions?

Xbox Controller - Not working with Stereo Headset

Hello, I've had a Stereo Headset for a number of months now working fine with my day-one edition Xbox One controller. A few days ago it stopped working, though the controller itself works fine. it was just the audio that wasn't working. I tried to headset
in another controller and it works fine, so its not the headset itself, just the controller. Please help! Thanks.

My adapter for my headset is not working

Have you tried updating your Headset Adapter ? To do so, look at this :
support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter.

When you say it's not working, you mean that you can't hear anything ? Have your tried your headset with another device ?

Sorry to hear about the controller issues! I see that you have tried most of the troubleshooting steps, but I recommend throwing in some fresh batteries to see if that helps. Some controller functions like chat and rumble can go out of the batteries are
close to dead. Also, try cleaning the headset connector with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. You can refer to our

Xbox One headset troubleshooter for more steps too!

If trying fresh batteries and cleaning the adapter does not help, I recommend replacing the controller. You can set that up by contacting our chat or phone support agents through our
Contact Us page. Alternatively, you can visit Online Service center to set up the repair. We strive to replace Xbox One accessories for their like models,
but unfortunately we cannot guarantee stock at our service center.

Stereo Headset isn’t working

If your Xbox One Stereo Headset isn’t functioning correctly, check the following:

Have you updated your controller’s software to support the Stereo Headset Adapter?
Make sure your controller has fresh batteries. When the batteries get weak, some controller functions, such as audio and rumble, are turned off to conserve the remaining power.
Make sure your Headset Adapter is firmly plugged into your controller and that your Stereo Headset’s 3.5-mm cable is securely plugged into the Headset Adapter. You will know it’s plugged in properly if you press the mute button and the LED lights up.
Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced. To order a replacement, go to the Xbox
Online Service Center .
Try your Stereo Headset and Stereo Headset Adapter on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try updating

Thanks for getting back to us. I would like to ask what kind of headsets are you using? Are they chat headset or stereo headset? Reason I ask is due to the fact that the Xbox One console does not transmit game sounds or music through the Xbox
One Chat Headset. If you're looking for an Xbox One headset that provides both game and chat audio, see Set up and troubleshoot
your Xbox One Stereo Headset.

Another thing I would suggest is to try your Headset on another controller, if you can. If the headset works on the second controller, try
updating the first controller again. If that fails, the controller will need to be replaced. Also,
Try your Xbox One Stereo Headset with another device, such as a laptop, to see if the headset is working. If not, the headset will need to be replaced.

I would recommend the official Xbox brand stereo headset as it claims to be compatible with all xbox one wireless controllers:

It probably doesn't need the stereo headset adapter - but if you're going to buy this headset, better just buy the stereo headset adapter to get your other headsets, that you already own, to work properly
