Xbox One Controller & Stereo Headset Adapter Update

When you do the controller/stereo headset adaptor upgrade that is rolling out in now on April 14th, should you also remove the batteries from the controller prior to connecting the USB cable and performing the update?

I recall reading somewhere for the earlier March update, that one needed to do that.

    :)

  2. How do we update the controller? NO USB Cable comes with Xbox One.

About updating controller, To use the Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter with your Xbox One Console, you’ll need to update your Xbox One Controller with the latest software to support the Adapter.

    This is from:
    support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter

So Titanfall controller update is done by over air, no cable, (February update) and Stereo Headset Adapter controller update you need an cable, which comes with the adapter (March update).

Xbox One Controller & Stereo Headset Adapter Update

Hi Skier! I don't believe that is a requirement anymore, as the main Xbox Support Page for updating the controller with the adapter no longer says that.

    support.xbox.com/.../update-controller-for-stereo-headset-adapter

It used to be a very important part of the instructions, but now I don't see it. Truthfully, though, just to be safe, whenever I have to run an update, I always unplug my batteries and plug in so that it receives only USB power. My controller updates have
    worked perfectly each time.

Make sure, though, that your headset adapter is tightly plugged in and doesn't come loose during the process, as I've heard that that can flummox the update somehow.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Jaymo,

Makes sense. I was reading the instructions again and it makes no mention of the batteries. I'm almost positive I read it there. Both the audio adaptor and a headset needs to be connected, as ti appears the headset plug in tells triggers the adaptor on and
if not one, the update might not take place. I usually read instructions very carefully and Microsoft does provided very detailed instructions it seems.

So tonight I'll give the update a shot. So strange that the system OS does reflect the April 14th update as installed, but no mention that anything happened. I would have thought that at the very least a notification would have been waiting, just like when
you install a game and turn the Xbox on, it tells you that a game update has installed.

You're right on that, by all appearances, there isn't any "notification" that the system update has occurred, other than, on the bottom right (in the column of three featured videos/links to the right of the home screen) you'll see a little video talking
about "New features and upgrades," or something to that effect.

I think this is a side-effect of the new "silent update" feature, which allows the Xbox to update and fully install the update while the system is on standby - no notifications, no progress bars, etc. I'm wondering if, since the apps/games have a little
star in the top right corner to reflect if they've been recently installed (or at least have an update waiting) if maybe they'll come up with a little notification (even just an Xbox Live message) letting you know an update has been applied...?

You know, I turned on the Xbox this morning, but didn't scroll to the left at all. Maybe if I had, I might have seen something. I was on the Home screen and went to "Settings". Didn't see anything that grabbed my eyes, but copied the OS version down to later
check and see because I noticed it started with 1404 and that triggered that a change might have occurred.

It's had the silent update active even since the March Update, that's how I got mine - box has to checked for automatic downloads and of course the Xbox must be in the standby mode with the white light on the power brick being displayed. If the amber light
is on, the Xbox is in "low" power state and is pretty much completely off.

I was expecting at the very least a notification in the upper right that something new had occurred. Like when an update for a game finishes or when a DVR video finishes recording, etc.

But nothing - again I will scroll to the right to see if anything is listed. They should have made it more obvious.

BTW - I'm an Xbox Ambassador also.

  8. Xbox One Controller & Stereo Headset Adapter Update

After this system update the other day, I'm still not getting notifications when my friends come online with the Xbox One, although last night I was playing with a friend of a mutual friend, he said he got the pop up when that mutual friend came online.
Any suggestions? BTW I did check to make sure it was the proper OS system update that was installed, it was the correct one. Any help would be greatly appreciated Xbox One Controller & Stereo Headset Adapter Update :)

    Hi Darq,

I got home last night and this time there were two tiles - one introducing me to the New Xbox One, which I guess serves as a good review and the other that new enhancements were there now. This wasn't there originally, even though I had checked in the morning
and the version number indicated I was updated.

What I did was to do a hard power off on the Xbox, then disconnected the power brick from the Xbox and the wall. You have to do both, because if you only unplug the brick and reconnect, it's likely your Xbox One will power on at all. sort of strange, but
I've had this happen twice so far and ended up unplugging the cable from the power brick to the Xbox One and also unplugging the power brick from the wall socket. Then I plugged it in, first the brick to the Xbox One and then the brick to the electricity.

The reason I did all this was to be sure that it started from a clean start, hopefully flushing out the cache after that update which I was told was around 400 MB. Then I updated my controller and that appeared to work fine too.

Try the Hard Power Off and see if that resolves your problem.
