Xbox one controller series 2 wouldn't let me request repair while it was under warranty

My one controller is like 2 years old I got it with the xbox. The other one I bought separately from game stop about a year ago.

There have been many issues with the Original Xbox Elite Controller Series 2. Peeling grips, sticky "A" button, and faulty bumper buttons were among the common issues at launch. Microsoft appears to have fixed the issues with the Series 2.

If your controller is under warranty, then repairs are free. If your controller is out of warranty, then you'll be charged a repair fee.

For argument sake, let’s say another controller works. Since the controller I have came with my console and the console is around six months old, would the controller be covered under the warranty? If so, I assume I can acquire a replacement under warranty
in a similar manner to requesting a console warranty repair.
