Xbox One controller, registering repetitive taps

Looking for some help, my Xbox one controller has been repeatedly tapping the 'x' for the last couple of hours. The button itself is not depressed in anyway and you can still click it (its definitely not stuck). This is happening
in multiple apps and games, which are unusable and unplayable because I cant click any other key as its picking up the constant tapping of the x button. The clicks are constant as if the button is being held down. I haven't seen anyone else with this problem
and I don't really want to open the controller up unless I know what is wrong and how to fix it.

D-pad issues with NEW (3.5mm) Xbox One controller

I've noticed that the d-pad will only work 100% of the time if you press it unnecessarily hard, but if you do regular taps, like on the normal Xbox One controller it won't registrar the taps.

 

Daily challenge can't tap blanks

This is, for example, in taps. Not trying to clear flags.

Again, if I tap an exposed blank space, it toggles the Tap/Hold to Flag setting instead of registering the click.

 

So I dont know if this is a permanent fix but realising that the controllers broke and it cant be 'more broken' I decided to experiment and tried cooling, hitting and cleaning (with ethanol) the controller, none of which worked :').

I then left a hot hairdryer on it whilst and went to brush my teeth and magically its fixed now :'D I'm not sure if it will go back to doing what it was doing or not but for now its working.
