xbox one controller only connecting thru usb and if it's right next to the console power...

I'm assuming this is meant to be a wireless controller? Have you tried syncing it again? Also, do you have another controller you can try, assuming it's only this one that's doing it? To me it seems like the controller may be the main issue (not necessarily
the console). I would try double checking for updates and then unplugging the xbox from the wall for around 10 seconds, then try to resync the controller to the console (if you haven't tried this yet).

that's what I'm thinking. I just thought it was weird that it worked fine but now it only works right up close to the console. I thought it would just stop all together.

Factory defect if you bought the controller recently I suggest that you go where you bought it and get return it under warranty to get a new one.

Obsessive Power is right, you can only send video/audio thru HDMI, any kind of controls can't be changed simply by plugging it in to your xbox. You could however plug your Xbox one controller in your PC via USB. On

There is a button on the console and on the controller that sets the devices into Synchronize Mode.

- On the controller, the button is a small circle on top of the controller. It will be right next to the Charge Port on top of the controller.

- On the console, it will be directly next to the trap door that hides the USB ports. If the console is horizontal, it will be just to the left. It is a small rectangle.

- Press and hold the button on the Console. The green lights around the power button should start to spin clockwise.

- Now press and hold the button on the controller. The same spinning lights should occur briefly.

-In a second, the lights on the console and controller should all flash several times, then connect and show only the light for the port the controller is connected to.
