XBox One Controller on PC no longer works

Just bought this wired controller one month ago. Plugged it in, installed and worked no problem, but I was getting a constant Xbox Accessories Runtime Error. Reinstalled Xbox Accessories App, it went to search for my controller, recognized it, then crashed.

Now my controller does not even "power on." In Device Manager, I have no listing for a controller, but do have a "Controller Updater" under Other Devices. When I remove this device, unplug the controller, and plug it back in, this listing comes back. No
listing for an actual controller.

In the old version of Device Manager, I have a listing for an XBox 360 controller, and Xbox One Controller DFU. When I go to Update Drivers for the 360 controller heading, there are no XBox One Controller drivers anywhere to be found.

I've tried to force the driver change to Xbox One Controller with no luck. The controller won't switch. And again, it still won't show up under Devices, only "Controller Updater".

To make this easier, buy the wired USB Xbox One controller. That is what I would do for PC games.

This is how I have connected my remote in the past when I used it with my computer, just by connecting the USB to the computer and into the controller. For some reason this has stopped working though and no longer turns on the remote when I plug it in

The Xbox 360 wireless controller won't work with the play and charge kit on it's own on a PC. The Controller always remains wireless, it can't be changed to a wired controller. To use a 360 wireless controller you'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.
Microsoft no longer make these, but it is possible to buy a third party receiver, although installing them can be troublesome.

The Play and charge can be used with the PC, but only to charge the controller. The driver is only designed to automatically sync the controller to the Gaming receiver.

Only the Xbox One controller can be turned into a wired controller with an Xbox One Play and Charge, or a standard USB to Micro USB cable.

I have a similar issue. My controller works fine, but only turns off when I plug in the new adapter or old regular headset. Have you updated your controller?
