Xbox One Controller not working Windows 10 x64

For years on my PC I have been using an Xbox 360 PC controller. Works great, still does on Windows 10. I recently read an article stating that Xbox One controllers also work with Windows 10 with a compatible Micro USB cable. Seeing as I also have an Xbox
One, I decided to plug my controller in using various Micro USB cables.

When I plug the controller in, it vibrates for a second and nothing happens. I opened device manager, and it seems to be detecting the "Xbox Controller" over and over again, never really installing the device. I have tried every Micro USB cable I can find,
USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on my PC, even downloaded and installed the x64 Xbox One controller drivers and manually tried to change the driver to every compatible device listed. Still same result.

I thought maybe I had an early version of the controller, so I went out and purchased a new Xbox One controller. Sadly I have the same result with this controller. Device manager just loops and never really installs the device.

So I guess I'll return the new controller and keep using my Xbox 360 controller on my Windows 10 PC. I just thought it was strange because Microsoft says that all Xbox One controllers are compatible with Windows 10.

Still the same with Windows 10 x64 CU 15063.296 + XBox One BT controller and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning game.

 

Are you on the preview program? What version of the OS do you have installed? Start->Winver should tell you the build number.

 

If your cable is not faulty then you may have hit a known interoperability issue with USB 3.0 and the controller in some of the later builds (10576 is one of them). This is fixed in the latest builds, i.e. 10580 onwards. Either you could try and get the
updated builds or plug the controller into a USB2.0 host controller (port), instead.

 

I have two USB 2.0 ports on my PC. I have the same result when the controller is plugged into either of those ports. As I said before I have tried multiple micro USB cables, at least six different ones. Same result with all of them using USB 2.0 or 3.0
ports.

I would gladly test a future preview build with this issue, please contact me in how to do so.

 

10586 has been released to Windows Insider preview. Please upgrade and see if it resolves your problem
