Xbox One Controller not detecting Headset after firmware update

Hi, not sure if this is exactly where I should ask this.

I've recently got a pair of Astro A40's and they originally didn't get detected by my Xbox One Controller via 3.5mm connection.

I tried changing a few audio settings and nothing helped with this.

Then I tried updating my Xbox One Controller Firmware a few weeks ago which did actually fix the issue and my headset was detected and working perfectly.

I received another Controller update today however and during the update, my headset stopped being detected by the controller and hasn't been working since.

I'm curious if anyone else has had this issue? I've tried searching Google and Youtube to see but I only ever find people talking in regards to owning a mixamp which I do not.

I'm currently on the Xbox Beta Preview and have just reported the issue in case this is related however it seems to have only happened during the controller firmware update, which previously had fixed the issue.

Another weird thing is my earbuds still work in the controller, and my Astros work on all other devices so not sure what to think.

Any advice or info would be appreciated as I've not been able to find anything

    :)

From what I could tell, there is no way to update Astro A40s, simply because it uses only a 3.5mm headjack which transfers audio, not data.

@ninjascruff Regardless, of this option, I backed up to external HDD instead and reset console completely so Xbox wouldn't say that it requires a full format like for some previous issues I've had.

I'd like to point out I've been in touch with Xbox Live Support and was talking with an adviser (Do not wish to name publicly) who said the following:

"I understand. Hopefully, once the new firmware update releases, let's hope it would be compatible with your third party headset."

Which to me, points out that once again, like I've mentioned, the issue is with the firmware which was released for the controller. I don't know when the next firmware will become available, they seem to be months or even years apart so I will not be holding
on to hope and I'm honestly debating sticking with Xbox.

I've been with Xbox since the days of 360 and this is most disappointing to know that when an issue is brought to Microsoft, it takes the live chat rep over 2 hours to tell me this when first blaming Astro for being a third party company and not designing
a headset to work with the newest firmware, when the headset was designed before the latest firmware was released.

Nothing was escalated to the engineering team to advise them of this bug to even try to fix this as I was told this option doesn't exist. So I'm left waiting for who knows how long until a new update releases which could be months or a year.

I guess there is no solution to this problem and there is nothing I can do.

Both Next Gen consoles from both Sony and Microsoft have disappointing me in one way or another through broken software updates which each company refuses to acknowledge so I guess it's time to save for a PC once and for all.

Thanks for the replies everyone and trying your best to help with this but I'm thinking on scrapping their console completely and doing the PC route from here on out.

*Just feeling a little salty after wasting over 2 hours for microsoft to finally tell me it needs to be fixed in another firmware update after repeatedly giving them the same information over and over*

"In regards to the headset adaptor, I don't see how much of a difference this would make when all it does is make the controls for volume and muting a little easier by being closer to my hand. I'd rather not invest money..."

Well its a lot easy than a factory reset + redownloads.

If you go down the track of a reset, consider dropping down from Beta ring to below or unenroll completely, via the Insider Hub.

Have you posted this issue at Reddit XBox Insiders Forum?

Xbox One Controller not detecting Headset after firmware update

    Hey,

I don't use any headset adaptors and never have. I've tried checking if there is another update but I'm told the controller is now on the latest version.

There is no USB method as mention however I'm using 3.5mm which is the connection on my A40s and again, this worked before the controller firmware upgrade.

Is there any method of downgrading a controller or resetting the controller to factory?

I was talking to someone who said a console factory reset might work which I am not willing to do right now as all of my games are downloaded and it would be a nightmare to re-download them all again considering a lot of them are almost 100GB's each. Maybe
eventually but I want it to be a last resort and not the first provided guess solution.

Thanks for the answers guys, anything else I can check please let me know :)

    Thank you
for responding to this and helping with my answer to the question, greatly apprciated
Not a problem. Just to note, all issues I previously had with controller/headset mic errors were solved by buying headset adapters to bypass the 3.5mm socket of my numerous controllers.
