    Hi everyone,

    So I've already had a few kind souls try to help me with this problem (sadly no no avail), but I figure I would take one more shot at it. I prefer to use my xbox one controller for PC gaming. I had been using one for a while, but recently needed to build a new PC.

    Anyway, brand new PC with Windows 10. Everything else is working perfectly, except this: my xbox one controller will not connect via USB. If I plug it in, it will vibrate, but no light turns on. Windows returns an error of "USB device not recognized" and the controller itself reads as "Unknown USB device (port reset failed" in the device manager. Now, this was functioning on my prior PC just fine via USB, so the fact that it is not here has been driving me up the wall. I've tried a ton of fixes already including:

    1. Different cords and ports (including an official xbox one cable just to see)

    2. Going into device manager and hitting update driver on the relevant port (seems up to date per autoscan)

    3. Checking to be sure that windows is up to date

    4. Ensuring motherboard bios is up to (non-beta) date

    5. Updating chipset drivers

    6. Restarting PC with controller plugged in

    7. Pressing the discover button on reset

    8. Turning on the computer with the power (via the xbox button) on the controller

    9. Running media creation tool and updating

    What is particularly weird is that it works fine if I connect it via Bluetooth. That said I'd like to be able to configure it, and I'm pretty sensitive to input lag, so the fact that it does not work via USB, and ONLY USB is a real bother. If anyone else has had this problem and found a fix, I'd appreciate your help!

    Hi Keith, There are two ways to connect an Xbox controller to a PC: with a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

    Connect with a USB cable

    Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on your PC.

    Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your Xbox controller.

    The controller should automatically connect to your PC.

    Connect via Bluetooth

    Make sure your Xbox controller and PC have Bluetooth.
    Activate Bluetooth on your PC.

    Press and hold the pairing button on the Xbox controller for 3 seconds.

    The controller should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on your PC.

    Select the Xbox controller from the list and click "Connect."

    Connecting a xbox360 controller to a pc thru xbox360

    No that is not possible to connect a controller to your PC through your console. You will need the Xbox 360 wireless USB receiver for windows or buy a pure wired USB xbox 360 controller (microsoft and 3rd party ones available and all will work).

    The play and charge USB cable for xbox 360 controllers does not make a wireless controller wired as it only transfers power and not data.

    You could buy an xbox one wireless controller that is newer and has bluetooth and connect it to your PC directly as seen on this page: :

    You can also use an xbox one wireless controller of any type (with or without bluetooth) with a Micro USB cable on a PC as well. THAT wire does make the xbox one wireless controller act as a wired controller while connected via Micro USB.

    I have the same problem. I think it was caused by a controller update (version from 17.11.2021). I enjoyed the new fast switching feature between Xbox and Bluetooth devices (double click pairing button).

    Switching controller between Xbox/Bluetooth devices - OK

    Xbox connection - OK

    Android mobile connection (bluetooth) - OK

    PC Win10 USB connection - OK

    PC Win10 Bluetooth connection - does not work. the pairing will be fine but controller does not work.

    Xbox One S, 2pcs XboxOne controller, Windows 10 completely updated.

    EDIT:

    resolved issue - update Windows 10 21H2.
