Thanks for updating us with your reply! The smallish button that is on the front of the controller is the "bind" or "sync" button that is used to wirelessly connect the controller to your console or, in this case, your PC via the wireless adapter. You may

In regard to your other issue about one adapter working and the other giving you trouble, you may benefit from

performing a clean boot to your Windows 10 PC and then
running the app troubleshooter on your Xbox Accessories app. This has a tendency to cure a few ills with things. You'll also want to ensure that your controller is updated and this may be done in the Xbox Accessories app while the controller is connected
to the PC on a wired connection (cannot be done via Bluetooth or other wireless connection). How to update your Xbox

Option 3: Use Bluetooth. You can only use Bluetooth to connect a controller to Windows 10. You must have the newer model of Xbox One controller.

Enable Bluetooth on your PC (Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices), then press and hold the
Bind button on your controller for a few seconds to put it into pairing mode.

Note that after you connect your controller to a PC, you’ll need to re-pair it with your Xbox next time you use it. You can connect the controller to your Xbox using a USB cable and press the
Xbox button to pair.

Or press the Connect button on the system (to the left of the disc tray on the original Xbox One, and on the bottom-right for the Xbox One S and Xbox One X) followed by holding the Bind button on your controller.
