XBox One Controller needs usb to power on

    Hello,

    I have a standard X-Box one controller.

it will only power up when plugged in with the Micro USB

After powered up, you can unplug and controller will function as normal including using the power button to power off the console.

if console is rebooted and controller powers off, it will not power back on until you plug it in with the USB.

again once controller powers up you can unplug and use as normal and that being the only failure I can identify.

Controller and console are both up to date.

    Controller settings are verified “default”

    I have;

    hard and soft rebooted console

    changed batteries

    re-paired controller

left controller plugged in for over an hour

    tapped controller housing and buttons

    All with no resolution.

    :)

[PC] Xbox One Controller Won't Turn Off

    Hi Basx3,

The controller will need to be disconnected from the provided USB cable to allow the controller to turn off. Since you are on the PC, the controller does not have the same power menu the Xbox One does to manually shut off the controller.

The USB cable is supplying power to the controller from your computer.

Controller Stuck ON, Controller Does Not Respond to Button Presses, XBOX One Not Playing Game

There is an issue with having your Xbox One in the "Instant On" feature. The symptoms of that is loading the game and then it forcing you to home screen. To fix this go to Settings --> Power & Start up --> Click on power mode and have it be Power-Saving
mode. The controller not working is probably due to not updating the controller. To update your controller you will need a USB to Micro-USB cable, like the ones that you plug into your smartphone into a USB wall charger. Insert the Micro-USB end into the front
of the controller and the USB end into the left side of the Xbox, near the disc tray but on the left face. Then go to Settings --> System --> Update controller. Make sure you have an active internet connection and plug your headset into the controller, (the
default Xbox One Headset) as it will update the headset too.

    xbox controller blinking

As this can caused by multiple things, a good idea is to follow this troubleshooting procedure.

First, get a Micro-USB cable (make sure it's a data cable, and not just a phone charging cable, as these often lack the USB data lines and only provide power).

Remove the batteries from the controller (to make sure it's not a battery issue).

With the Micro USB data cable, connect the cable to a free USB port on your Xbox console and the controller.

Does the controller work? If not, the controller is probably defective. The controller will transmit controller data to the console via USB cable.

If it does work, unplug the USB cable and find a USB power adapter (like a phone charger) and connect the controller to the power source with the Micro USB cable. That way the controller will have to use it's wireless radio to transmit controller signals.
If the controller is blinking, it's not properly synced and you need to press the bind button on the controller (the small button between the LB and RB buttons) and the bind button on the console (on the original Xbox One it's the button on the left side of
the disc slot, and on the One S and X models it's the small button near the power button).

If the controller properly works with the USB power adapter, remove the USB cable and insert your batteries. If the controller is now blinking, your batteries can't hold enough charge anymore and need to be replaced.

Troubleshoot the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows

Please try not using the USB hub and use a direct USB to USB to your PC for the xbox one controller.

Otherwise, the warranty for the xbox one controller does not cover accidental damage. You will have to buy a new one if there's a problem here.

As for the xbox 360 controller, the play and charge kit does not make it a USB controller, that device only transfers power, not data - even though it shows up on device manager. You will need the Xbox 360 wireless receiver for windows for that to work,
or a purely wired xbox 360 controller.

As for the USB hub having issues, please uninstall it from the device manager and reboot and see if it gets the drivers reinstalled.

XBOX SERIES X and Play and Charge Kit

    Hi,

    • Yes, you can connect the controller via the USB cable to a PC. The cable sends data as well as power.
    • You don't need batteries. The USB cable sends power and data, As long as the controller is connected to the USB port on the PC will power the controller.
