xbox one controller needs reboot every time I use headphone connected to the controller

Symptom: a headphone connected to xbox one controller, USB WIRED with Win10 PC. Remember it is NOT wireless.

When PC is turned on or wake up from sleep, the little light on the controller lits up and controller works fine, but no sound produced from the headphone connected with it.

It will not sound until I unplug the controller from PC and connect again.

It has to be done every time PC wakes up. I want to solve it.

    What I tried and learned:

Headphone has no issue when connected to other devices.

PC can produce sound without issue through any audio device.

Xbox controller firmware is up to date.

Xbox controller is not muted. Muting and unmuting the controller did not solve issue.

Adjusting volume on the controller did not solve the issue.

Xbox controller buttons working just fine without re-connecting.

Re-connecting audio cable will not solve issue.

Pressing every single key on the controller did not solve the issue.

Xbox controller is recognized as default sound device. I can see the volume bar moving up and down in device manager. However no sound will go though headphone.

    :)

Is there a way to get audio through the controller without using Bluetooth for the series X controller on a Samsung TV?

I believe that Xbox controllers only transmit and receive audio through the Xbox wireless signal and not via Bluetooth. If using Bluetooth to connect the controller, you need to use a different method for audio. Wired controllers and controllers connected with the Microsoft wireless dongle can use the headphone jack for audio.

    Xbox controller damages headphones

Hello, DeliriouSquarer. Thanks for reaching out! My name is Lucas, and I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user just like you. I'll be happy to assist you today.

So if you connect your headphones to your Xbox controller, after some time it starts to malfunction. But if you connect this same headphone to your phone or PS controller it works? That's correct?

Or the headphones you use with your PS controller and phone functions for a long time and the headphones you use with your Xbox controller start to malfunction after a while? (And do not function anymore after that).

I'm not an electrical technician but this can be caused if your controller is having electronic issues inside it or on the headphone jack/port. I would recommend you to take your Xbox controller to an electronic store for repair.

When will the Xbox Series X Controller Firmware get fixed?

Yeah, the behavior is very weird, I tested it with my phone and worked fine.

I'm using an Asus BT500 adapter (not built-in), but that dosen't seem to be the issue either. And I only connect my Xbox Controller to it, that's why I bought it

As I said, I tested to see if the adapter is the issue, by connecting a PS4 Controller, and BT headphones at the same time with the Xbox Controller.

And played Forza that way, since that's what I play the most with the controller and I get disconnects. And while playing the game with the PS4 controller, and listening through the headphones, I could see the Xbox controller getting disconnects, while the others were fine.

When I'm using the Xbox Controller, I get the first disconnect within 5 mins, and after that every 10-15 mins

    My controller devours batteries,

Headphones attached to the controller does mean it will use the battery's allot quicker but not as fast as yours sounds to be.

Firstly you need to check and update the controller firmware (best done using a USB cable) with the headphones attached at the same time to the controller. To update the controller software go to the setting menu / All setting / Kinect & Device / Devices
    and then select update controller.

If this does not help try running the controller without any headphones / headphone adapters connected to see how long the controller then lasts. If you find the controller battery then lasts a pretty long it will probably mean the headset will be causing
the issue and if not it may be a controller problem.

Maybe a headphone Jack problem possibly a different problem

    Hello Findinglavacake,

Welcome to Xbox Community Forum. Thank you for sharing your concern with us today and we hope that all is well.

We understand that you are experiencing issues with the headphone and controller. Let us check on this together and sort this out in timely manner for you to get back to gaming.

Based on your description, your headphones work on every device and the controller will work on every headset you own. However, this two will not work together. To have a better understanding, we would like to further isolate your concern.

    1. May we ask when did this issue happen? Was there an update you install on the driver or the OS of the device you connected?
    2. After you plugged the headphone jack on the controller in what device are you connecting the controller? Is it Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One or PC or mobile?
    3. May we ask for the make and model of the headphones and the controller?
    4. Was there an update of the drivers for headphones?
    5. Will the headphones connect wirelessly not wired?

There could be a fix if the issue happens after an update, you may contact the device support for assistance however, if it is different then we need to check further on the details.

We look forward to your response.

Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

    Sincerely,
