This is not an isolated incident then as I have had two controllers at fault, seems more cost effective to move to another platform than to keep shelling out for controllers !!!

Well I am back to report on my progress regarding two controllers with same problems as you all have had. I sent back two controllers. One was the day one controller and the other was from the rechargeable battery kit set.

I received my first controller back from Microsoft on April 23rd via USPS. It was a box a little bit too big for one controller so I had initially thought that both of my controllers had arrived in one box. That was not the case. As I opened the box I
was further shocked by the lack of any type of padding or shipping etiquette. Like I stated the box was a little too big for one controller. The controller was wrapped in the same thin semi see through foam sheet material with the two Duracell batteries
in it. That’s it. I have pictures and I should post them in here. How can this type of shipping help the reliability of the controller as it is shipped, dropped, thrown etc? I shook the controller in my hand to see if it had that little rattle that all
of the controllers seem to be plagued by. Sure enough it rattled. This was not a confidence booster.

So I placed the batteries in the controller. Turned it on, sync’d it up to the XBOX One system, and updated the firmware of the controller with the headset plugged in. Put in Forza 5, chose a car and started to drive around. Everything works fine. The
car drives straight, and all of the buttons appear to work at this time. Time will tell.

In the mean time I did purchase a third controller from a local game shop. I had to buy a third one because I had sent two back in to Microsoft for repair due to normal use from a 40 year old man. With no controller you cannot play a game on your XBOX
One. So I have a lot of money wrapped in to this gaming system.

As of right now April 24 I have received a tracking number via email for my second controller ( Day One Edition ) on its way back to me. I will report back in this forum on controller number two.

I am glad that Microsoft took back both of my controllers. I am glad that I will be receiving two new controllers back. However should I really be glad about it? I mean this is something that Microsoft should be doing! Microsoft needs to do more in regards
to their ownership of this problem. There are a lot of us with this problem from all over the world. There are many videos on YouTube as well.

One tip I have for all of you out there. Register your controllers and your system right away. Document everything. I will be back to report my upcoming experience.

Moving to another platform is always an option, however, you can buy several controllers for the cost of a different console. If the controller is still under warranty you can get it repaired/replaced.

Having had a good look around the www and various forums it seems the controllers are of questionable quality, My first controller that came with the console had a problem refusing to be seen by the console for updates and a drifting of the left toggle stick.

That was after 6 to 7 months use, with the console only having one controller I was 4 to 5 weeks waiting for a replacement, no use of the console within that time because of no fault of my own.

What is the life cycle of the console, considering that I would expect the controller to have the same life cycle as its a fundamental part of the system and cannot be used with out it.

My replacement controller started to have problems with the left toggle stick a few weeks back when I contacted support they advised as it was a replacement I had only a 90 day warranty with it and I would have to buy a new one.

If I keep buying new controllers at that rate it would be more cost effective to buy a better quality preforming platform that has none of these issue's with controllers from the research I have done.

This is clearly a quality/manufacturing problem though Microsoft will be reluctant to admit it until someone take legal proceedings as is the case here.

    motherboard.vice.com/.../a-case-about-scratched-xbox-360-discs-heads-to-the-supreme-court

The issue of these controllers will kill the Xbox one if not dealt with, a few of my friends have already sold the console to help fund buying a PS4 because it has no issue's with the hardware, I'm afraid after speaking with support I sadly will be doing
the same as I cannot keep buying controllers that are unreliable.

If that's your best solution to the problem......... the Console should come with a warning, that several controllers may be needed as they are unreliable.

Not everyone is having trouble with the controllers. Unfortunately, you happen to be one of the users that are. I'm sure if you check around you will find all gaming platforms come with their share of problems.

Xbox One Controller, left stick faulting!!!

We all know thumbstick drift is a serious issue at the moment with Xbox One Controllers. This is because in this generation, the thumbstick modules are really cheap and the quality of these modules is bad.The 2 main problems are (compaired to the Xbox 360
Controllers) that the two 'lines' you see running over the module are made of plastic, instead of copper and the module is surrounded by more plastic, instead of metal.

Thumbstick drift happends when the little plastic piece either left or right of the thumbstick module breaks (99% of the time it is the left piece, and on the left thumbstick, because that one gets used the most, because of using that thumbstick to move
in games). Once this little plastic piece breaks, it can not be put back on. The thumbstick will be permanently broken. All 'fixes' out there are all temporary fixes. On the Xbox 360 Controllers, this was mostly made out of metal, and basically never broke
(EDIT: did not break nearly as much as the Xbox One Controllers! After reading the comments there are apparently loads of people that have Xbox 360 Controller thumbstick drift! This is pretty strange, because if it was such a big problem in the first place,
then why did they 'downgrade' the quality of the materials even more?! One thing that I do know is that we are now seeing a thumbstick drift post every single day, and that was not the case in the Xbox 360 era).

I, and countless of other people, were very excited to find out how the inside of the Elite Controller would look like. But I've got bad news; the Elite Controller uses exactly the same thumbstick modules as the regular Xbox One Controller!

You know what this means? You are just as likely to get thumbstick drift on your $150 controller compaired to the regular Xbox One Controller. This is not a good thing! This is a big factor for a lot of people when thinking about buying this controller,
especially if they experienced thumbstick drift before and know how annoying it can be. Combining this with the horrible warranty, we will see a lot of angry customers in a few months!

I also don't like the way Microsoft addresses this issue. They just tell you to buy a new controller. But I don't think this is entirely Microsoft's fault. This is probably the thumbstick module manufacturer's fault, they decided to switch to this cheaper
alternative. Please Microsoft, order the Xbox 360 thumbstick modules (or even better ones!) if you can, and put them in the Xbox One Controllers!

If you've got any questions, please feel free to post them down below. Please don't see this as an attack on Microsoft of any kind, I've been with the brand for over 8 years and I still love it! I've personally not experienced this issue before, but I do
know this is a real issue and that Microsoft's response to it is not so professional. I'm just here to point this problem out and to suggest a way to solve it.

So in short suggesting that I keep buying controllers will not solve the problem, it will most certainly break the bank.

The elite controllers have the same thumbstick modules a much quicker way to break the bank.

Fix the problem with the controllers, quality parts and build even if it means paying a little more for them as reliability is key to this issue, the console is of no use without the controller !!!

I have two controllers BOTH with drift issues. The one left thumb-stick drifts upwards and the other one has a right thumb-stick drift issue that drifts upward.

Like what the heck am I suppose to do. #SMH

    Hey there jfrawls.

This particular thread is from earlier this year please be sure to post in more recent threads or create your own. Unfortunately with drifting issues a repair or replacement is going to be your best option, for more information check out

Xbox One Controller, left stick faulting!!!

I have had a bad experience with the xbox one controllers too.

The one that came with my console works like it should but the panels feel odd. The first additional controller I brought the menu/start button was broken right out of the box, so I took it back for a replacement and then that one the left stick started
to make odd noises when tilted in certain directions but it is still usable but for how long remains to be seen.

The second controller I brought from a different shop again the menu/start button doesn't work unless I really push down on it and the left stick makes a odd sound whenever I tilt it down so I'll have to return that one and judging by my recent history I
don't think the replacement will be much better either.

I wish xbox/ms would look into the construction and durability of their controllers as I look after my controllers and so its frustrating when they start to break within only a couple of hours of use or are broken right out of the box.

Just received my controller back yesterday, and was disappointed to find how badly it was packed. Pretty much same experience as @Sp01led Jam1e. I'm concerned about how loose the analog sticks feel as the controller probably bounced around in the box without
any padding. Hopefully, if something does go wrong and controller breaks down completely in the next few days, whatever warranty exists on the replacement can be used to send it back in for repair/replacement again.

In my case, the process from opening ticket to having my controller back took about 2 weeks. The Microsoft support team was fantastic and quite responsive in my opinion. My experience with calling "the other guys" for some questions regarding my PS4 was
    a nightmare in comparison.

Microsoft does seriously need to look into how their repair factory is shipping out replacements though. If anyone at Microsoft would like to contact me, I'd be glad to forward pics of how badly the packing was done.

Just got an xbone today and set it up. Controller keeps leaning to the right. The controller feels weak and cheaply made compared to the 360 ones. Shame we can't bin it and use 360 controllers. How do I go about swapping a controller that came with the console?
Do I need to take the whole lot back to the shop?

You will get more broken controllers. The new controller is a piece of junk. Every single one I have tried has a broken left thumb stick... or it's on the way to being broken. This is a mass hardware failure. Look at all the people having the same problem.
360 controllers were WAY better quality. Even the new media remote is a piece of junk. All these websites spewed out positive reviews way too quick before spending time with it. You need line of site for it to even work. Reminds me using my VCR remote as a
    kid. Junk.
