Yeah, so the first controller, I bumped the micro-USB cable a few times and then it would constantly disconnect, this happened within the 90 day warranty window so Microsoft kindly sent me a replacement, now,
some 8 months into casual use (2-3 hours a day, I'm on PC and I also, primarily use mouse and keyboard) the X,Y,B,A buttons are exhibiting double input (in Forza Horizon 4 this results in shifting into 4th gear instead of 3rd, in multiplayer this can cost
you a race if it happens enough). It started a few days ago, and now it's doing it more and more frequently.

With my old X360 controller, I could disassemble it and clean the button area on the PCB with rubbing alcohol to deal with sticking buttons fairly easy, there were even standard screws, not torq screws as on
this one. And that 360 controller lasted like 3 years before the sticking button issue cropped up, lasted around 5 years in total and I still have it around.

It's really hard to not see that Microsoft is intentionally designed these things to break very quickly, I'm seeing a lot of reports of this particular issue with both the standard XOne controller and the Elite.

I'm 40, been gaming since the 1980's, I had the original Gameboy, the Sega Genesis, the NES, SNES etc. I've never, in all of my life, seen this issue with the buttons exhibiting double input and back then I
used those controllers for 8 hours a day, day in day out, for years.

Now, 20 years later, 6 months of use and the buttons conveniently give out out side of a 90 day warranty and youre looking at having to do this:

    Actual fun part:

Or pay Micro$oft for another controller?

It's REALLY hard to not see this as an example of Engineered Obsolescence.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planned_obsolescence

Planned obsolescence, or built-in obsolescence, in industrial design and economics is a policy of planning or designing a product with
an artificially limited useful life, so that it becomes obsolete (i.e., unfashionable, or no longer functional) after a certain period of time.[1] The
rationale behind this strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as "shortening the replacement cycle").[2]

Producers that pursue this strategy believe that the additional sales revenue it creates more than offsets the additional costs of research and development, and offsets the opportunity
    costs
of repurposing an existing product line. In a competitive industry, this is a risky policy, because consumers may decide to buy from competitors instead if they notice the strategy.

Planned obsolescence tends to work best when a producer has at least an oligopoly.[3] Before
introducing a planned obsolescence, the producer has to know that the consumer is at least somewhat likely to buy a replacement from them. In these cases of planned obsolescence, there is an information
    asymmetry
between the producer, who knows how long the product was designed to last, and the consumer, who does not. When a market becomes more competitive, product lifespans tend to increase.[4][5] For
example, when Japanese vehicles with longer lifespans entered the American market in the 1960s and 1970s, American carmakers were forced to respond by building more durable products.[6]"

I have been contemplating picking up an Elite controller a few years ago, but these issues are present there and then youre looking at being out $150.

Now Micro$oft says the new Elite 2 is going to be more durable, they "promise".

    Yeah man you know what?

    Enter expletive here.

    I'm done.

How about I just don't play Forza Horizon 4? Problem solved, I have too many games to get to with mouse and keyboard anyway.

I guess Micro$oft can't make enough money with their spyware OS that they can't even update properly. I'm still on 1703, here's what 1903 looks like:

Really sad to see this as a conclusion of a monopoly.

    http://www.redgamingtech.com/exploring-the-danger-of-a-microsoft-pc-gaming-monopoly/

I don't have an Xbox and I'm not interested in Project Scarlet, once we figure out how to game on Linux without the performance hit I am so out. I really truly do not like Micro$oft at all.

    :)

I tend to buy quite a few used controllers off the market, most just need to be cleaned & some need stick replacements. But all have been easy fixes .... so far.

The only trouble I’ve ever had from xbox controllers is a wandering thumbstick and that was after a few years of play. I have a regular run-of-the-mill controller now for almost 2 years and no issues. I play at least 2-3 hours a day, every day.

However, my brother has an elite and it is complete garbage. Hoping they address all of the flaws in the Elite 2.

Typically, most avid and competitive gamers replace Xbox One controllers after 3-4 months after buying and wear and tear. I have a few stocked up, still in boxes too. I watch for sales. I'd recommend just getting a new one every quarter of the year or so
    if you use it regularly.

Other smaller factors could be part of the button jamming too, like dust or really small particles stuck under the pressure points for the buttons. Have you tried something like keyboard cleaning spray, but on your controller? Just a random suggestion/thought.
    It might help.

It sounds like the controller is what's causing the game issues vs. the game not registering the controller and keyboard binds. I hope your problem is resolved and I could offer some help!

I never had any problem with the D-Pad.
I don't know what a **** is. But it probably only concerns old drivers, now they're new for some time.

Also, my original post here is my one star review for this controller on Amazon.com.

Oh you didn't think we would make noise in response to your BS?

And I'm fixing this, it will be a hassle to do this every 6 months, but I'm not in a position financially to throw $60 into the toilet because MS has a "business model" predicated on intentionally designing products to fail within 3-6 months.

Maybe if MS buys up all of the $3 parts on ebay you can continue your monopoly.

    https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...Metal+Button+for+Xbox+One+Controller&_sacat=0

But yeah, this doesn't look good for any prospective Project Scarlet customers, guess who isn't buying another Microsoft console for the rest of their life?
