Xbox One Controller input issues (buttons recognized as the wrong ones)

KB3147458. Before this update MS fixed the issue where some games fully supporting 360 controllers wouldn't work correctly with the Xbox One controller.

Wasteland 2 being one of them. The problem was (and still is) that the triggers and certain other buttons would randomly register as other buttons. So if you pushed a trigger the controller might have sent input from the D-pad instead. And vice versa.

Since KB3147458 came along they managed to ruin it again and they still haven't fixed it.

Getting really tired of this since it's supposedly down to an issue with a certain driver that was bundled in said update.

The Xbox One controller is supposed to work just as a 360 controller in games that support the 360 controller, but clearly it doesn't work just like it. At least not as of now.

This needs attention from MS and everyone else having the same issue.

Xbox One Controllers FREEZE (NOT Disconnect)

I have an inconsistent but not infrequent problem with my controllers freezing/console won't take input from controllers. The packed-in controller and a Titanfall controller. One with headset adapter, one without. Both have the latest controller firmware
update. An example: controller input doesn't navigate home screen, launch games or apps, invoke menus, whatever. Home button tap will sometimes go home as it should, but not further input recognized. Holding home button brings up turn console off or turn
controller off dialog box as it should, but can't select either option, or the close option.

Interestingly enough, this also happens with the Xbox One infrared media remote. Same deal. Console won't take input from the remote, or the only input it will take is home button taps or holds.

Doesn't seem to freeze during gameplay. Only during app or home UI interaction. For example, controller won't freeze playing Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, won't freeze in the game's pause screen or options screens, but open friends or chat during a gameplay
session, controller input will freeze in the app.

Xbox One Controller turns on wrong xbox

I have 2 Xbox ones in my room with two TVs

I have a controller synced to each of them.

When i press the Xbox button on the first one it turns on both Xbox(s). The controller does only work on the one for input.

Can't figure out how to stop this

After checking the files change list from KB3147458 and an earlier KB3140768 the fault porbably lies in the "Xinputhid.sys" file located in sys32/drivers since that's the only one I could find that I know is related to xbox controllers and that has a diff
in the file version. MS please fix. Also. Why isn't Windows 10 able to automatically find the drivers for the Xbox One controller and said adapter? We should not have to dig through the update catalogue ourselves just to install said devices. You don't even
refer to the update catalogue in the support section for the adapter and the controller. All you give us is a guide that doesn't work since the issue so many of us are having is that Windows 10 simply won't find the drivers while manually trying to search
Windows update for them.

If that step isn't working out you claim the devices need to be replaced, but that's not the case.

Have you had any issues with other games, or is this the only game causing an issue? Is it not recognizing that the buttons are pressing, or it's performing the wrong actions?

It might be worth checking if there is a controller firmware update available and that the button mappings are what you're familiar with.

Im experiencing the same issue. The first mini game is basically unplayable as my inputs are not recognized unless i press the button several times and one happens to register. The game also won't let me see the k+m controls in game and in thw options
screen, even when the controller is not connected. I can't choose between control types either so I'm stuck just seeing the controller inputs even when using the k+m.

I went to the internet and found several sites explaining that it could be done, and how to do it (obviously those did not work for me)... I must have gotten the wrong impression.... I thought that an Xbox 360 guitar would work on xbox companion. Its weird that windows recognized the 360 guitars as controllers but the xbox companion did not. when i go to buy a new controller, how can i recognize it as one that has x-input ?

Great question!

The controller needs to recognize direct input to stay on, leaving the button pressed under a piece of tape, as an example would not qualify as input therefore triggering the battery saving function of the controller.
