Xbox One Controller Headset Adaptor Update on PC

The March update, is for compatibility with the new headset adaptor. From what I've read, when you plug the adaptor into the controller it will prompt you to update the controller, which requires a usb/plug and charge cable.

Have you updated the controller since the latest update ?

When the new dashboard came out there was a few changes to help support the new elite one.

I had the same issue until I updated my controller

Here's how to update your controller

1.Sign in to Xbox Live on your Xbox One console and install the latest system update if prompted to do so.

2.If you have one, plug the Stereo Headset Adaptor into the bottom of your controller so it can also get updates.

3.If you're using a Stereo Headset Adaptor, plug in a headset (a headset must be plugged in so the adaptor will turn on).

4.Plug the big end of the included USB cable into the port on the left side of the console, around the corner from the disc tray.

5.Plug the small end of the USB cable into the top of the controller.

6.Instructions to install the update should automatically appear. Follow the instructions, and don’t disconnect the USB cable while the update is in progress. (The process can take up to 3 minutes.)

If instructions to install the update don’t automatically appear, you can start the process manually. To do this, press the Menu button, select Settings, select Devices & Accessories, select the controller that you’re updating, select Update and then select
Continue.

7.When the update is complete, unplug the USB cable. If you have additional controllers to update, connect them now, one at a time, select the Update another button on the screen and then follow the steps.

8.Press the Xbox button on the wireless controller to turn it on. Your controller is now up-to-date, and you’re ready to use your Xbox One Stereo Headset Adaptor.

Notes

•The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you plugged your Stereo Headset Adaptor into the controller while downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To resolve this, go to the Home screen and unplug the
adaptor. Then, re-plug the adaptor into the controller.

•You only need to update your controller one time to use the Stereo Headset Adaptor. However, if you plan to use the Stereo Headset Adaptor with other Xbox One controllers, you’ll need to follow this process for each controller. Additionally, check for new
updates periodically as Xbox frequently delivers new controller features and improvements.

•If you try to update a controller that was already updated, the system will check the controller and proceed to the success screen within a few seconds to indicate that it’s already updated.

•If you have more than one controller connected via USB cable, the update will tell you to disconnect the other controller and update just one controller at a time.

Thanks for that response, let's take a look at the controllers firmware and confirm that there is no pending updates.

What type of headset is it that you are using and are you plugging it into an Adaptor or straight to the controller?

There isn't a specific adaptor for the Series X/S controllers for PC. The current adaptor works just fine with these newer controllers, however it is now in very short supply. There are third party ones available that do the same thing.

The Xbox 360 wireless controllers use a different WIFI protocol, they need their own Xbox 360 wireless Gaming Receiver.

Xbox One and Series X/S controllers can be connected to PC via Bluetooth, but headsets will only work with the Xbox One adaptor (or a third party version), they won't work when the controller is connected via BT

if I'm not mistaken, this headset comes with a headset adaptor for the Xbox One controller, correct? If so, you can continue to use the headset + adaptor on the controllers which now have a 3.5mm port as they still have the port for the headset adapter to
plug into.
