XBox One controller frequent disconnects from PC (depending on USB cable)

I've had an XBox One controller which is used exclusively for Windows (PC) gaming. Since there is no wireless connectivity yet, I use a USB-A to Micro-B cable to connect it to my computer. Unfortunately, the female receptacle for the micro-B port on the
controller cannot survive a 5-year old's use of the controller (Dude loves all the Lego games). The ground shield on the receptacle is no longer a nice, neat

    straight line
, instead it is more oval shaped.

This bending has caused some usb cables to function properly, and others to completely fail to maintain connectivity between the XBox One controller and PC.

The solution is to use more forgiving USB cables when connecting the XBox One controller to the PC, but I was hoping that Microsoft would have delivered a slightly more durable part for their "high durability" controller.

    :)

[PC] Xbox One Controller Won't Turn Off

    Hi Basx3,

The controller will need to be disconnected from the provided USB cable to allow the controller to turn off. Since you are on the PC, the controller does not have the same power menu the Xbox One does to manually shut off the controller.

The USB cable is supplying power to the controller from your computer.

Controller has hard time connecting to XBOX

    Start with the basics at
    support.xbox.com/.../wireless-controller-disconnects-frequently-or-cannot-connect
. If you have to connect the usb cable to the wireless controller it may be a power issue. Not 100% sure but I think the usb cable only provides power it does not provide a
communication channel. Meaning, even if you connect the wireless with the usb charging cable all the communication is still happening via wireless.

    Vanguard Controller issue ...

Connecting the controller with a USB cable doesn't work,

Controller still disconnects even with a USB cable connected,

I have the same issue with Series X using mouse and keyboard for Call of Duty Vanguard.

I played during the beta and there was no problems with the controller disconnecting but as soon as the game released, the controller disconnects,

I've tried a Xbox One controller Series X controller, with batteries and a USB cable, and the controllers still disconnects.

XBox controller disconnects from PC or stops responding

Hi Keith, There are two ways to connect an Xbox controller to a PC: with a USB cable or via Bluetooth.

    Connect with a USB cable

Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on your PC.

Plug the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your Xbox controller.

The controller should automatically connect to your PC.

    Connect via Bluetooth

Make sure your Xbox controller and PC have Bluetooth.
    Activate Bluetooth on your PC.

Press and hold the pairing button on the Xbox controller for 3 seconds.

The controller should appear in the list of Bluetooth devices on your PC.

Select the Xbox controller from the list and click "Connect."

Let me know if the information is still useful.

    Sincerely,
    Marvina.

Does The "USB" Cable That Comes with The Stereo Adapter Make Your Wireless Controller Like A Wired Controller?

    Hello,

Yes, the USB cable while plugged into the Xbox One controller will force the data to and from the controller to the console over USB, thus making it a wired controller.

This is also evident when unplugging and plugging in the USB, the controller disconnects for a brief period to resync.
