my center point keeps shifting up when scoping in also when just running. sigle player and multiplay

    Hey there.

Not quite understanding what you mean by centerpoint. Is the controller drifting up? For steps on drifting controllers, check out our

    Xbox One Controller Troubleshooter
. Unfortunately for drifting issues, the controller would need to be repaired or replaced depending on your warranty status.

    Xbox one controller drifting up

    Same problem here.

I got 2 controllers exactly the same problem.

This entry has more than 880 comments

    forums.xbox.com/.../1846667.aspx

I got 1 day one edition and a second controller bought about 2 months later, both with the same problem. The left stick stuck and acting alone. Your character in the game move forward non stop, you cannot select a Netflix movie, all games screw up.

I called Microsoft and they say is not a issue, get another controller...

I don't believe them, this is problem.

    Xbox One Controller Drifting Up

You are now chatting with 'Gabby'

Gabby: Hello, thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Support. My name is Gabby. Please give me a moment to review your question.

    Gabby: Hello there!

Gabby: Thank you for patiently waiting!

Gabby: How are you doing today?

    Gabby:

D: my controllers right analog stick is drifting

    D: both of them

Gabby: I do apologize for the inconvenience. I could only imagine the troubles you are having but no need to worry because I will make sure to have this concern addressed for you.

D: one started drifting a couple months ago, but i hardly use 2 at once so i just switched controllers

D: now the other one started drifting yesterday, and i did all the troubleshooting steps in the forum

Gabby: Thank you so much for doing all the steps D. It is much appreciated.

Gabby: This could be an issue with the console or the controllers.

Gabby: If I may know, have you tried playing the controllers to another console?

    D: no

D: I've been using the 2nd controller for months without an issue after the 1st controller started drifting. the console doesn't seem to be the issue

Gabby: Thank you for confirming D.

Gabby: By the way, have you already tried hard reset and resyncing your controllers to your console?

D: i did that twice..that is the steps i already said i did

Gabby: Perfect! Thanks D. I would really love to check your replacement options for your controllers D.

Gabby: First thing, may I have your console serial number please?

    D: -

Gabby: Thanks for this information D.

Gabby: Please give me one moment here.

Gabby: I may need to register your console first.

Gabby: May I have your phone number, email and home address please?

    D: -

    D: -

    D: -

    Gabby: One moment here.

    Gabby: That is done.

Gabby: Can you please remove your controller's batteries then on the bar code, please tell me the product ID?

    Gabby: Thanks.

    D: -

Gabby: Do you have another code that does not start with X?

    D: -

    D: -

Gabby: Thanks. One moment as I verify.

Gabby: Thank you so much for patiently waiting D.

    Gabby: Hmm.

Gabby: I have checked and reviewed the controllers and I do apologize but they are already out of warranty. We can only do a free controller replacement if the controllers are covered with the warranty.

    D: these will get replaced

D: I've only used the 2nd controller for 2 months..

D: I've have my 360 since 2003 and every single controller still works

Gabby: Thanks but when did you purchase the controllers?

D: I've had this for less than 2 years and one of the controllers I've only used for 2 months and i can't replace them?

    D: manager phone # please

D: I'm supposed to buy another controller and have it do the same thing in 2 months?

D: without even knowing the reason why its happening?

Gabby: I totally understand where you are coming from D. I am a customer myself but I do apologize that for our accessories such as controllers, we only have a 3 month warranty. The warranty starts when you purchase the controllers.

D: i can take a picture of this controller and you would of think i bought it yesterday..its in perfect condition..why would even think about spending more money on another?

D: 3 months?? did you see the forum?

    D: forums.xbox.com/.../1846667.aspx

D: there is 67 pages of complaints

    D: 67!

Gabby: We don't have a direct phone number of our supervisor but we can definitely help you in setting up a chat with him.

D: thers obviously an issue with the controllers and its not the customers fault

    D: have them call me

    D: 67!

    D: pages!

    D: did you even look?

Gabby: I hear where you are coming from but there are lot of factors affecting the controllers D.

    D: 67!

    D: pages !

    D: enough said

D: did i already say i have a 360 I've had for over 12 years..put 250x more hours into it and no controller issues

D: so you really are going to put this on the customer?

D: you're saying I did something to BOTH of these controllers?

Gabby: I understand where you are coming from D. We are not denying or blaming you for the controller issue. However, for the replacement process, we are bound with the governing policies here.

D: what can i possible do to BOTH controllers to make ONE analog stick drift??????

D: the same issue as in all 67 pages of the forum...

D: you are governed by all the money i put into this system and its un usable

D: you are forcing people to sell there used controllers on craigslist knowing they are defective.

D: after Microsoft replaces my controllers I will sell the machine with all the games and finally buy a PS4..thanks..is the supervisor able to call me?

Gabby: I know where the frustration came from. I am a customer myself and I for myself would not want this to happen to me or any of my friends. However, in as much as I would love to stretch out your options but we cannot proceed since your controllers
    are out of warranty.

Gabby: One moment though as I check with our supervisor. Just a heads up, they may only do the chat and not the call.

D: stop with that customer BS, u get a discount.

D: i will end up calling anyways

D: i am getting my replacements

D: no way i spend this much money and you guys tell me its my fault

    D: 67 pages!!!

D: you know theres an issue but blame me

Gabby: Sorry D but I did not blame. I told that there a lot of factors that might have resulted to this issue.

    D: tell me those factors

D: i bet my console and all my games they are all blaming me

D: go ahead i would like to know these factors. Why are you withholding information that 67 pages worth of customers would like to know?

D: i just want a fix. I don't want new shiny controllers. you know whats just as good as a fix? information to prevent whatever the issue is. You won't tell me because the problem is with Xbox and it will cost too much money to replace YOUR mistake

Gabby: I did not withhold that information D and no, I don't mean to blame you with the controller issue. If I may know, have you been running your controller updates?

D: What are those factors you speak of?

Gabby: Before I proceed, may I know if you have been running controller updates?

D: didn't i tell you in the very beginning that i ran those troubleshooting steps?

D: that was the first step. so YES. anything else you need me to repeat?

D: and what are those factors?

Gabby: Alrighty, D. First thing, the drift issue may have something to do with the corrupted controller update. I am not blaming you again but for some reason, there is a network interference during the process that may have resulted to this issue. Second
factor is the usage of the controllers, too much pressure or overtime playing may have also affected your controllers. And lastly, this could be a console issue, I know that we have not tried yet using the controllers to a different console. Having 2 controller
drifting issue is very rare, unless you have an interface issue with your console.

D: how do i fix the corrupted update?

Gabby: That is the problem D when you run a corrupted update, this may not be fixed since this is a software issue.

D: why would Xbox send a corrupted update?

    D: this doesn't make sense

D: you're saying its software and can't be fixed in the same sentence?

Gabby: No, again. The corrupted update is related to network interference.

D: if its software that means it can be fixed

    D: explain

D: what is interfering with my network?

D: all my games and apps update just fine

D: are you just making this stuff up?

Gabby: Nope, I am not inventing things here, we have cases about that though that has been documented.

D: theres not one issue related to Xbox one corrupt controller issue online

D: show me a case then

Gabby: It is just hard to figure out exactly with the network interference or interruption during the process, D.

D: cause you are making this up, just like you made up the fact that a manager was going to chat with me

Gabby: Yes, I am trying to get one but he is not available yet. If you can wait, I can find you another one.

D: whats the most up to date firmware for the x1 controller?

Gabby: But again, he or she can do the chat.

    Gabby: One moment here.

D: also explain your reasoning behind its unfixable if its a software issue

    Gabby: One moment.

    Gabby: Setting up the chat.

    D: firmware version?

D: do you have the latest firmware version of the controller?

info: Your chat transcript will be sent to [Mod Removed] at the end of your chat.

Gabby: Sorry for the delays. The latest firmware version of the controller should be found via Settings > Devices & accessories and select the controller.

Gabby: Please let me know the latest firmware version of your controller and I'll check if its up to date

D: I know the latest firmware i have

D: I want to know what the latest firmware I SHOULD have

    D: you're saying i don't have a proper update

Gabby: I'm not saying such thing, D.

Gabby: I'd just need to know the firmware version of your controller at the moment.

D: whats the proper up to date firmware version i should have on my controller?

D: Im asking you what the latest version is

D: don't ask me the same question right back at me

Gabby: This is just for us to isolate and determine where exactly what the hang up is. If you do not wish to provide the firmware version you have there, then here goes ours. 1.2.2236.0

D: are you able or NOT able to tell me the latest firmware version of the XBOX controller that has been released by xbox?

    D: i have that version

D: so its not the update

D: or that update doesn't work for the older controllers, in which therefore you have to replace both of my controllers

D: or release an update that fixed the older controllers

Gabby: Yes, we can replace your controller, but with a fee of $60 since this is beyond warranty. A replacement will be sent immediately. You are not required to return your non-functioning controller

D: its not my fault that xbox is no longer supporting the older controllers.

    D: therefore its xboxs fault.

D: therefore my controllers are YOUR responsibility.

    D: therefore you replace them

    D: or

    D: support the older ones

D: or just get me a manager because you are not helping

Gabby: D, my manager will provide you the same information that I provided. Do you still wish to speak with her?

D: I've been asking that for an hour..are you seriously getting paid for this?

Gabby: I am just giving you a heads up D. I am now transferring you to our manager.

info: Please wait while I transfer the chat to '(Manager) Jane'.

    info: Privacy Statement

You are now chatting with '(Manager) Jane'

(Manager) Jane: Hi D, hope you're doing well on a Tuesday morning. I'm Jane, Gabby's manager. I see that you wish to speak with me. Also, it appears that Gabby already explained everything to you. How can I be of assistance?

D: have you read the chat?

D: theres an obvious issue on Xboxs side dealing with faulty or unsupported controllers

D: all older controllers are having the issues and the new updates are not geared towards the older ones

(Manager) Jane: D, I cannot jump into conclusion in regards to your assumption that the update is not geared for older controllers. When you say older controllers, you are referring to the controllers that was coupled with the console bundle that you purchased
way back 2013, is that right?

D: thats a problem thats not my fault, which gabby seems to think it is. I still use my xbox 360 that i bought in 2003 with the same 3-4 controllers and still don't have an issue with them

D: are you telling me that xbox one controllers only last 90 days?

(Manager) Jane: I didn't say anything at all, D. The 90-day timeframe is the warranty of the controller.

D: i bought my 2nd controller the same time as my xbox but never used it until two months ago. ironically it has the same exact issue as the controller I've been using the first year and a half

D: so therefore a new xbox one controller only lasts 2 months? no its defected, or the firmware version doesn't support it..not hard to figure out

    D: forums.xbox.com/.../1846667.aspx

(Manager) Jane: If the controller is beyond warranty, the only way to process a replacement is to pay for $60. I understand that emotions are running high, but please do understand that we do not have any capabilities to override our system and have each
user whose having the same issues as you get a free replacement if they controller is beyond warranty.

D: thats 67 pages of Xboxs fault, not customres..theres a clear case of something wrong on your end but you are making the loyal customers pay

    D: emotions?

D: where do you see emotions in this chat?

    D: I'm just righting a wrong

(Manager) Jane: I've been a PC and console casual gamer, D. I've been using the controllers for years and found no issues. If you think that the issue was caused by the firmware update, then what we can do right now is to wait for another update and see
how it goes. Other than that, the only way to resolve this issue is to process a replacement.

D: i won't accept that. I work for the dept of consumer affairs, I'm well aware of my right and know how to start investigating this issue.

D: it sounds like a corrupt scheme to get customers to pay for newer model controllers instead of supporting older ones as well

D: all I'm asking for is a fix, not a new controller

D: if xbox can make a controller in 2002 and it still works today, then i know they can fix this issue

D: im NOT buying $120 worth of more product to enjoy what i already spent thousands on

D: i would sell my xbox for nothing and get a PS4 before i get schemed to buy a new controller

D: im not understanding how someone in management can't see that 67 pages worth of complaints from people and still say the customer should shell out more money

(Manager) Jane: All items are subjected for wear and tear, D. I'm not saying that yours is. Let's just say that your old gadgets are still working fine, but the new ones aren't, it doesn't automatically mean that the new ones are bound to last for a few
weeks or even month based on your experience. If you have already exhausted all the troubleshooting steps with Gabby, the only fix right now is either to wait for another controller firmware update or to have this replaced. But since you mentioned that both
of your controllers are experiencing the same issue with all the game perhaps? You can try your friend's controller on your console and see how it goes. If it still persists, then we can have your console send it to our service center for repair.

D: i just told you i only used it for 2 months and you bring up wear and tear

(Manager) Jane: I totally respect your decision, D. But Microsoft is a legal business company and if you think that these are schemes, that is your own opinion and you have the right to say so.

D: are you not seeing what I'm typing? 67 pages! with the exact same issue! not different controller issues, but single analog stick drift issues

D: thats way too specific and occurring way too much for someone in management to blame the customer with the wear and tear

(Manager) Jane: I'm not blaming anything at all. I'm just explaining or simplying the situation to you, D. If the culprit lies within the controller then we'd stick to our only fix which is a controller replacement.

D: it might not be a scheme per say, but i bet its a way to cover their behind on shelling out money to loyal early adopting customers.

D: this is how they repay loyalty and early adoption? i stood in line for an xbox one

    D: for over an hour.

D: and after thousands of dollars spent, i am told my controller is too old, please buy a new one so we can still support it

(Manager) Jane: D, I'm afraid that we've already explained everything to you. On behalf of Microsoft, I truly appreciate your loyalty over the years and believe me, as a highest point of support here in the department, it also frustrates me if I cannot give
you the solution you want or provide you the outcome of what you are expecting. I also know that you have waited and invested so much time to contact us and believe me this is also not the experience that I want you to have.

D: are you telling me that there is 67 pages, 68 now, of people complaining about the same issue with their controller, even threatening a class action lawsuit and Xbox doesn't know about it or care?

D: and is doing nothing about it?

D: that leaves me to believe its not a software issue but a hardware one which is why you and MS wants everyone to buy a NEW controller. I need this resolved and Im not paying for it.

(Manager) Jane: From a technical point, I do not have the grounds to answer your question, D. At this time, we are not aware of any compensations or make good offers in regards to the 67 pages that you provided earlier. If that changes, information would
be made available through our normal Xbox channels.

(Manager) Jane: Is there anything else I can assist you apart from this?

    D: apart from it?

D: thats the reason why I'm here. i need my controllers fixed..lol

(Manager) Jane: Yes, as I mentioned earlier, we have already explained everything to you. And like I said, the only way to fix this is to process a replacement order wherein you want it to be free, which we cannot comply.

D: so your admitting its faulty hardware?

D: which means i shouldn't have to pay for it

D: I have this transcript so any lawsuit or investigation will surely end up in my favor

(Manager) Jane: Since you mentioned that this is happening on both controllers on the same console, in all your games, I'm either suspecting 2 factors here. It's either the console or the controllers. But you mentioned that you're positive that its the single
analog stick, then a controller replacement will do.

(Manager) Jane: To email this chat session to yourself please click the icon above the chat window:

D: you just told me its faulty hardware

D: how can hardware xbox made 13 years ago last for 13 years but something they made in 2013 last 18 months?

D: this is why xbox made new controllers because they knew there was an issue

    D: which is unfair

D: so I want my controllers replaced

D: this is what xbox teaches you? ignore customers like the 68 pages of customers are being ignored?

    D: are you guys hiring?

D: because if all i gotta do is tell customers BS and ignore them and be a manager, then Ill apply

(Manager) Jane: Since we are all clear with the replacement that you do not wish to proceed, do you have anything else for me to assist you, D? No offense, but we've been beating around the bush here. Trust me, I am also a customer and a gamer as well, and
I truly understand your frustrations. But I hope you also understand that we do have policies and guidelines to abide. We cannot just process something out of the blue because the customer doesn't wish to.

    D: i just want a fix, i asked you a question

(Manager) Jane: If that was everything, I'd like to thank you again for contacting Xbox Customer Support. Have a wonderful day ahead, D. This is the reference number for this chat session
[Mod Removed]. Our phone support number is 1-800-469-9369.

D: are you admitting that its a hardware issue?

(Manager) Jane: Yes, I believe so. I've already mentioned to you earlier.

(Manager) Jane: My bad. I stand corrected, our phone support number is 1-800-469-9269.

D: so if the hardware is defective why are you making me pay for it?

(Manager) Jane: Like I mentioned earlier, your controller is beyond warranty.

(Manager) Jane: And as I said, we do not have any ways to override our system here and process all replacements for free for any out of warranty controllers or even any accessories, and consoles.

D: its a common issue!! that means it was defective before it was even sold..NOT MY FAULT

D: there are youtube videos proving its a manufacturer defect

D: im not letting all my money goto waste so i want a replacement

(Manager) Jane: There's no need for those capital letters, D. Going back, we've encountered these issues before and the only way we fixed it is by processing a replacement, either if its in-warranty or out of warranty. You want to process a replacement for
your controller as we suggested, but you'd rather want it for free and abide to the guidelines of the warranty. I apologize as we are unable to process your request here. D, I've been explaining this to you. I'm afraid I have to end this chat session now.
If that was everything, thanks again for contacting Xbox Customer Support. Take care as always

    Xbox One Controller Drifting Up

Just googled this same issue and come across this thread, i am having the same problem and it makes games such as OCD and GTA nearly impossible in situations where you need to stay still or camp, as the left stick will magically move you by itself.

Would love information myself on how to get this issue sorted

I would have settled with 50% discount on a new controller. seriously. At least thats something. Now I am canceling Live and selling my X1 and getting a PS4. Hard headed? yea, drastic? yea. but its the truth. I think the guise of the a new controller to
cover up the fact that the original controllers were a known defect is horrible. A multi-billion dollar company can't shell out chump change to fix a known issue? and leave 68 pages worth of customers without an apology or admit it has nothing to do with MR.
Quimbys elementary trouble shooting steps is ridiculous. If anyone plays ESO, I have a VR4 character i am willing to sacrifice to let MS know how serious I am. Or maybe I've always wanted a PS4 anyways..oh well it'll be on sale this weekend

  10. I have a day one controller and had no problems until now, the right thumb stick drifts up constantly meaning I can play any games, I've tried all troubleshooting including updating the controller and it's still not resolved, would I be wasting my time contacting
Microsoft regarding this? Should I just buy another controller?

Really disappointed by this, paying what I paid for the day one bundle is expect a controller that is built to last!

  13. Xbox One Controller Drifting Up

Today i was told the only microsoft sell "legitimate" products. this means that all other retailers including Best Buy sell counterfeit products

This is an extremely frustrating issue.

i have a total of 4 controllers (the original one) along with 3 i paid for with the last 2 controllers bought within the past 60 -90 days (should be under warranty) that are now all up drifting and can not be used

My console is out of warranty . i was told initially that Microsoft can replace the controller for me but after checking the warranty date (expired 1 month ago only) , i was told that Microsoft can "Replace" it but i need to pay $60. The agent i chatted
with stated that he knows i can buy it cheaper from other retailers but buying it from Microsoft will guarantee i get a "legitimate" one. I bought my controllers from BestBuy

This is frustrating that Microsoft is not stepping up to the poor quality issue here. i had an xbox 360 and never ran into issue of up drifting (i started with the original one even and had it for 4 years)

It is insulting to be told that only buying the products from Microsoft will guarantee a "legitimate" one. does this mean Best Buy is selling counterfeit products?

Best Buy saying i need to contact Microsoft since it is within the warranty period. Microsoft claims I bought illegitimate products since i did not buy it directly from Microsoft and the only one losing here is me, I am basically losing more than $180 in
controllers because of poor quality issue

I requested to talk to a live agent after all those non sense accusations about legitimate products and i called the number. the agent i talked to asked me to post here to have this issue looked into but i have no faith that microsfot will do anything here..i
think this is just a way to let things dissolve/ disappear- and time will prove me right

i have the full conversation/ chat script including the part where agent offered to replace my controller for $60 and where he claims that only Microsoft sells "legitimate" products

I can post the conversation here or forward it to whoever is going to look into this issue

And no, updating controller, powering off console, re-syncing, unhooking console from outlet...etc (all the other recommendations mentioned in other threads here about the same issue) all of these do not work. this is a hardware issue that needs to be addressed,
    not a connection/ software issues

How can i replace my other 2 controllers? . Best buy said go to Microsoft, but Microsoft did not take responsibility and refused to replace them unless i pay $60 for each (wanted a total $240 for the 4 controllers)

Microsoft should be held accountable....i am willing to participate with any of you to explore any other options that will hold Microsoft accountable for selling faulty/ defect products

I just recently started having this problem with my right stick. It moves up on the game that I'm playing but, the stick doesn't physically move.

Sylas, there are only three options for you (2 if you don't know how or don't want to solder). Go buy another controller, fix current controller by using a soldering iron, or sell your XBOX stuff and buy a PS4 (which is what Im doing) Just sold my X0 7 headphones!
Otherwise Mr. Quimby and co. will try to tell you that power cycling your xbox might fix the issue, but it won't. Its a known hardware defect, sort of like the RROD on the 360 years ago. They have however fix the issue by selling new controllers, but won't
acknowledge people with original controllers..go figure..anyways good luck
