Xbox One controller doesn't work with Windows 7 laptop

I have an original Xbox One controller without bluetooth and I have plugged it into my android phone and it works fine wired, but if I use the same cable, without the OTG adapter, it doesn't do anything, it doesn't light up, or rumble. I tested the USB
cable and the USB ports on the computer, and they all work. The computer and the controller to not react in any way to being plugged into each other. I feel like the only thing that could be going wrong is that somehow the laptop isn't giving the controller
enough power, but that shouldn't be a problem because it has batteries in it. The controller also immediately responds to being plugged into the Xbox One.

Have you tried doing a cold start on your PC by turning it completely off for a few minutes

Well, that is not actually true. As long as your using a data sync cable, and your using Windows 10, it should work regardless. Although, if your using windows 7, I had to unplug the controller, look online for an Xbox driver installer, and install drivers
beforehand. I realized that the computer did detect it, but for some reason, Windows driver update could not find any drivers for it. Check to make sure that you are using a data sync cable and that your computer already
has drivers installed.

the answer is it is a wireless controller they dont work with the usb charging cable ive tried it on windows 7 and 10 you need a proper wired controller apparently.

That's true for 360 controllers, but not Xbox One. The Xbox One controllers work wired and via wireless on PC. My wiress controllers all work fine via the micro USB cable on my PC.

Windows 7 doesn't come with drivers built in to the OS though, they may need need to be downloaded manually if Windows update isn't picking up the controller.
