XBox One Controller D Pad Registering Without Being Pressed

I just bought an XBox One controller to use with my PC (using Windows 10 Anniversary Update) and it works fine, except for one problem. The D-Pad is intermittently registering as pressing up even when I'm not touching it. This obviously makes using it somewhat
difficult. I've tried using different drivers and updating the firmware and neither has had any effect. Is there anything I can do about this or is it an OS issue or do I just have a defective controller?

D-Pad not working properly.

I have recently purchased an Xbox One S and the D-Pad on the controller that came with seems to no longer be working properly. When I click on the right D-Pad button, does not spring back like the other three directions. After removing the front cover of
the controller, I realized that it was unlike other issues I have researched. The broken part is not the metal spring going around the D-Pad, but the small bubble that the D-Pad actually depresses. When is it pressed, the air pocket moves to the outer blue
ring surrounding the original bubble. In order to put the air pocket back into its original place, the new bubble must be pushed down slightly. Without doing this, the D-Pad is being "pressed" (although the actual D-Pad itself is free to move). Does anyone
have any suggestions on how I can resolve my problem? Thank you!

Buttons registering without being pressed

1. Is your controller an official Xbox controller or a MadCatz (or aquivelent). not all unofficial controllers will work correctly with xbox 360 console.

2. if it is an official or an unofficial controller you used before then check sensitivity layout on the games, you could have it set to high and the slightest press can set it off w/o you knowing.

3.As they said above, get a new controller if all else fails.

Update: I took the controller back to the store and exchanged it for a different one and this one has no issues, so I guess the one I had before was just defective.

Master Voltage

Your not the only one, same issue during light or quicker presses on my Elite controller as well. I use the D-pad for all menu navigation and find it (D-Pad down) failing to register 3-4 out of 10 presses. I refuse to use it, forget gaming with it.

When that button clicks, the input should register, period.

Having the same DPad issue. Purchased the controller and a lot of D-pad clicks don't register. Have to press it very hard.

You can try this: The first step in resetting an Xbox One is to open the main menu. This can be accomplished in one of two ways:

Press the home button on your Xbox One controller. This is the illuminated button with a stylized X that is centrally located on the front of the controller near the top.

Alternately, you can press the left bumper until you reach the home tab, and then press left on the d-pad.

Press down on the d-pad until you reach the gear icon.

Press the A button to select the gear icon.

With all settings highlighted, press the A button again to open the settings menu.

Press down on the d-pad until you reach System.

Press the A button to open the System submenu.

With console info highlighted, press the A button again.

Press down on the d-pad to select reset console.

Press the A button to select this option and move to the final step.

Press left on the d-pad to select Reset and keep my games & apps. Then press the A button. This is the less thorough of the two options, as it only resets the Xbox One firmware and settings without touching your games and apps. Try this first, as it allows you to avoid downloading everything all over again.
