Xbox One controller continues to have disconnect issues

    Hey all,

My xbox one controller has been randomly disconnecting for 2-10 seconds at a time since I got the console (November). The disconnects are apparently random; sometimes they will happen every minute for 5-10 minutes, other times I will play for hours without
a single disconnect. They can happen in any game, app, or at the dashboard. To be clear, these are the exact symptoms:

    1. The controller stops responding to my input. If I was holding down a button when this happens, the Xbox acts as if I'm continuing to hold it down (e.g. if I was holding the left stick forward to move, my character keeps moving forward). My headset will
cut out at this point as well.
      1. Sometimes I will get short staccato bursts of static through the headset.
    2. The Xbox button on the controller starts blinking.
    3. Sometimes, the above symptoms go away within 2 seconds, and my controller and headset function correctly again.
    4. If the problem persists longer than 2 seconds, the game I'm playing will pop up an alert saying "Your controller is disconnected." The exact message varies from game to game, but I've seen this happen in Titanfall, Destiny, and Ryse (the disconnects also
happen at the dashboard, but no message is displayed there).
    5. Usually, within 2-6 seconds after the message appears, the message disappears, the xbox button on the controller stops blinking, and the console starts accepting input from the controller. Usually the headset takes another 2-4 seconds to start working after
      this.
Additionally, I get those staccato bursts of static (as noted above in 1.1) sometimes without the controller appearing to disconnect. This happens with the xbox headset as well as third-party headsets. Bonus problem: If I'm using a third-party headset (e.g.
Astro A50), the headset does not regain the voice connection till I unplug and replug the headset. This happens even if the disconnect is only momentary. This problem may be specific to the headset.

    I've tried the steps
    outlined here
with no success (with one exception: I haven't tried another controller because I only have the one). To be clear, this means I followed these steps:

    1. Move closer to the console: I have sat within 2 feet (no obstructions) of the console and had the problem.
    2. Replaced the batteries: I've used brand new duracell AAs and the problem still occurs. FWIW, I usually use Sanyo eneloop rechargeables.
    3. Power cycled the console.
    4. Reconnected the controller to the console: twice, once via cable, once via Kinect.
    5. Remove objects between controller and console: the controller has a straight line of sight to the console. Normally I sit about 8 feet from the console, but I've tested and experienced this behavior within 2 feet of the console.
    6. Updated the controller via USB cable: twice.
    7. I do not have another controller to test with.
Following the instructions here, I've created this post. Help please!

  2. Controllers Frequently Disconnecting

    Hey there AirShark!

Sorry to hear about the controller disconnect issue, I can definitely understand how frustrating that could be. We appreciate the feedback and information that you have provided.

It is possible that you may be experiencing disconnect issues from interference from another wireless device. I recommend checking out our Xbox
    One Wireless Controller disconnects
page to verify that one of the listed objects might be causing interference.

If this issue continues to persist and all troubleshooting steps have been exhausted, I would recommend having your console repaired through our Online Service Center.

    Xbox One controller keeps disconnecting

    Hey Ryan,

Sorry to hear about your controller. If you haven't already, try having your PC forget the controller and disconnect. If it still continues to disconnect, try uninstalling and reinstalling the controller drivers by following our

    Wireless Controller Setup.

@NewBlackSmurf: Good references! I don't have any 5GHz networks in range (just checked with a scanner), and I've tried most of the other items (sitting within 2 ft, etc). I did not try the factory reset, so I may try that next. Thanks!

I already returned one Xbox One now the replacement is having the same issue

I got a day one console, and returned it because of controller disconnecting continuously. My new xbox one not only has the controller disconnecting issue, but this blank screen issue that you are describing as well. Definitely not an HDMI issue. Never
happened once with the previous xbox. This is ridiculous. One of my friends is having the same blank screen problem as well.

Hey Toler567! Are there any accessories attached to the controller like a headset? Try out the steps on the "Xbox One Wireless
    Controller disconnects or can't connect
" page and see if they help you get that controller connected. If you continue to have issues you may need to get the controller serviced. Post back and let us know how it goes!
