Xbox One Controller - bricked in DFU mode

Is there any solution when a controller is in "bricked" in DFU mode?

It lost contact to the Xbox One due to a faulty cable when a fw-update started. Now the console doesn't recognize it any more and when it's connected to a Win10 PC it reports to be an "Xbox Controller DFU".

Can I hard-reset it somehow to revert it to non-dfu mode? Or can the fw-update be forced/completed on a PC?

It just happened to my Xbox One controller!

The Xbox Accessories app is a lot newer and it can't detect it since it got in DFU mode!

Please, help!

Ditto, updated app detects the controller while in DFU mode & was able to complete the firmware update.

1. Disconnect accessories, such as a stereo headset adapter or chatpad, from the controller and apply the update. If it was successful, attach the accessory and attempt the update again.
   
2. If this doesn’t work, try these steps:
   1. Do a full power cycle of your console by holding down the Xbox button on your console for approximately 10 seconds.
      
   2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the
      Xbox button on your controller.
      
      Note If you don’t see the green boot-up animation when the console restarts, repeat these steps. Make sure you hold the power button until the console completely shuts down.
      
3. If you still can’t update the controller, try a different USB cable, and make sure it’s firmly connected to the console’s USB port and the controller’s USB port.
   
4. Leave the controller connected via USB and just let it sit for up to 5 minutes, as the update can sometimes take a while to complete in the background.
   

 

I had the same problem as you, the thing that fixed it for me, and something i read works for other people as well, is connecting your controller to an Xbox One with a USB. I had to search high and low for an Xbox to connect it, but in the end it worked.
