    Xbox One controller battery choices

I got my Titanfall Bundle a week ago. It usually takes a killer exclusive to get me to jump Next Gen and Titanfall did it. I even got the magic controller because it looks cool.

I'm trying to decide what kind of batteries to invest in for my controllers. With the 360 it was easy. The battery packs plus the Quick Charge kit was easy. I had my "favorite" controller, and when the battery was done I'd swap to a fresh one faster than
changing a magazine. Alas, we have no such options right now for the Xbone.

Microsoft says "standard rechargeable batteries" are not recommended. I can't get them to say what "standard rechargeable" means. On Twitter they seemed to imply it included low self-discharging NiMh batteries like Eneloops. However, there is the officially
    branded PDP/Energizer kit that includes...NiMh batteries. So I don't see how they're a problem.

The Play and Charge kit is fine. They went with LiIon this time around - which is an improvement. I just hate using the controller as a charger. Either I have to remember to plug it in every time I'm done using it, or I'll end up having to switch controllers
mid-game which I don't like. If they had an equivalent of the QuickCharge kit I'd go that route.

So what are folks doing for batteries? Should I ignore the recommendations and just use Eneloops?

    :)

Xbox one controller says it's connected but isn't working

To resolve this issue, determine the faulty component and then replace that component:

    The Xbox One Wireless Controller

To troubleshoot the wireless controller, try using AA batteries, or try a different Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack to verify that nothing is wrong with the controller. If the controller works with different batteries, it isn't causing the issue.

The Xbox One Play & Charge cable

To check whether the cable is the problem, try a different Play & Charge cable (or any standard USB to micro-USB cable) to charge the battery. If the battery charges correctly with a different cable, your charge cable is faulty.

    The rechargeable battery

To troubleshoot the rechargeable battery, try the following:

Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the four gold contacts on the Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack and on the Xbox One Wireless Controller. Then try to charge the battery again.

Try a different Xbox One Rechargeable Battery Pack with the charge cable. If the second battery charges correctly, your original battery is faulty.

Just buy the PLay and CHarge kit. It's wonderful and the battery last for quite awhile(I've played 10-15 hours before having to charge again)

No quick charge kit is on the way. It'd be nice, but frankly swapping batteries or controllers takes no time at all.

I have two controllers, and two play-n-charge kits. I keep a charge cable plugged into the Xbox all the time (neatly tucked away, but very accessible), and one controller plugged into it when not in use (unless it's fully charged already). When the controller
I'm using goes flat, I simply switch... Plug the flat one in... And keep playing pretty much uninterrupted. Simple.

I don't want to switch controllers when the battery goes. I want to keep using my Titanfall controller. That's why I bought it. And dedicating a controller as a battery charger seems dumb. It was one reason I liked using my 360 more than my PS3.

I guess my real question is: Why does Microsoft say that standard rechargeable batteries are not supported when the licensed PDP/Energizer product uses them? In fact all of the battery products for the One other than the play-and-charge are using NiMh.

I have three batterys total yeah i use my spare controller as a charger but switching batters is as easy as it was on the 360. As far as using rechargable energizers i keep two sets for my turtle beaches, i do dislike the cover on the controller but became
used to it minor adjustments for a great console don't sweat the small stuff

I can't comment on rechargeable battery compatibility. I was just offering a solution.

I too have a Titanfall controller, I simply switch batteries if I don't want to use the std controller, using the std controller as simply a charging unit.

You can use rechargeable batteries in the controller, just the same way you can use non-rechargeable batteries. You just can't charge rechargeable batteries via the USB as far as I know.

Maybe I'm not following what you're asking?

I've been using rechargeable NiMh batteries for years on the 360 and still do on my One with zero problems. I have 8 Ansmann 2850 mAh batteries so I always have 4 fully charged at any time. They last for at least 20 hours of gaming time and take seconds
    to replace when they die.

I've got no problems using rechargeable batteries, so not sure what MS is recommending, or why (maybe bottom line if they can get you to buy their hardware).

My problem is that the XBone controller doesn't alert you to low power by blinking, like the 360 controller did. The MS engineer that came up with that change -- I hope he's on the unemployment line.

I have the Play&Charge and can say that it's well worth the money and the most obvious option. Good rechargeables can be expensive and the official kit does a great job, mine lasts much longer than I expected and it's a great quality too. Much simpler than
worrying about what you should be using.

I use Engergizer rechargeable batteries the 2300Mh and 2450Mh ones for both my Xbox 360 and Xbox 1 controller. It saves wasting money on new single-use batteries. I also own an Energizer 15 minute battery charger which can fully charge 2x AA/AAA batteries
in 15 minutes or 4x AA/AAA batteries in 30 minutes (the charger is black). I also use Engerizer rechargeable batteries for my Turtle Beach Dolby surround headset as well. These devices take quite a bit of muscle to power and this solution works well for me.
Batteries last about 10 hours for my Turtle beach headset and about 16 hours for the controller. Love it!
