Xbox One Controller Aux providing audio, but not chat features

I use a pair of earbuds plugged into my Xbox One Recon Tech controller for just about all activities. While game audio had worked consistently, for the past month or so, I have been gradually losing the ability to communicate with other players in game.

Initially, I could communicate at the beginning of play sessions, but would lose the ability to do so halfway through. It was as if a global mute was put on my Xbox account. I could hear others, but they could not hear me. When I joined an Xbox party, it
displayed that I had a microphone, but no sound was being registered by the app. When I tried to talk in games such as Sea of Thieves, I would get the symbol that indicated that I was talking in game, but no other players could hear me. This mic tag was client
side, as no other players could see that symbol above my head or next to my name. Later, I stopped being able to hear other players in-game as well, but could still hear them in parties.

I can hear myself with Mic monitoring in Audio settings, and adjusting the volume does indeed adjust my monitor level. At this point, I have checked all of my privacy settings but none have changed, and were set to allow all. This includes going into the
Audio, Mic Access, Message Privacy menus, and everything else I could find. The fact that this issue comes and goes suggests that it is not a privacy issue.

I found accidentally that I was able to communicate with another controller, so it is not an issue with privacy or my headphones. Although this could have partially been in part to the inconveniences. I thought to update my controller in the hopes that this
would solve the issue, but this changed nothing. The fact that this issue is inconsistent and reoccurring is incredibly frustrating, especially due to the fact that I will continue to get confirmation from a game that I'm still talking when no audio is being
    sent to the server.

    What do I do?

Edit: the issue of not being able to hear other players does not occur in some games with cross-play functionality such as No Man's Sky. I would imagine that this has something to do with not going through Xbox servixes, but it's impossible for me to confirm
    that.

    :)

Hi Andrew. Like I said in my original post, "I thought to update my controller in the hopes that this would solve the issue, but this changed nothing." I also made sure it was set to speakers instead of headset, but
this did not change anything that I could determine. I'm starting to believe that it may just be an issue with the controller. I have been considering updating for a while anyway as the decals have started eroding and the rubber grip on one side is slowly
    detaching an inch a month.

Unfortunately I have tried both of these. Perhaps there is just an issue with the controller and its treatment of chat audio. I may need to just replace it.

Edit: Now that I'm looking at it again, the mic is muted. That is incredibly strange as I never use that in play, and distinctly remember making sure it was not muted. Could there be some way for this to accidentally be activated while playing
a game? Also, could this have been what muted other players in game?

You should go to xbox accessories and update your controller or go to settings and change your audio settings from speakers to headset

If you are not sure, try reconnecting your headset to your controller (plug the headset connector firmly to the port on
your controller) and reconnect or resync your controller to your console. 2) Make sure your headset is not muted. Check the mute button on your headset control or the audio settings
    on your Xbox One.

No audio when xbox 1 hooked to pc monitor

Tried this, it did not work for some reason, but even if it did ...it would still take up the port on the controller that he uses for his headset for chat.

It's really not that important to me to buy a whole new speaker system. I just thought if the hdmi to displayport wire was supposed to transmit audio then maybe it was a setting in xbox or the pc that needed to be changed to get the speakers to switch between
the xbox audio and the pc audio.

A friend suggested an adapter to go from the xbox audio s/pdif port to a 3.5 mm aux, but I only find special fiber optic ones that won't work with a standard 3.5 aux port.
