Xbox One Controller Audio Adapter Mute Button Always On

Hi Support,

I’m experiencing an issue today where the mute button on the xbox one audio adapter is constantly on and will not turn off. My headset as such is not working through it either.

I have seen a few similar threads, but everything i have tried so far has not worked.

I have tried to update the controller in the hope this would work. Tried via the USB and also via Wireless. Both methods tell me that Firmware is version 3.1.1221.0 and ‘no update available’.

Only other related possibility might be that i recently managed to get my IOS app on the ipad to work with the ipad mic in parties, but this doesnt sound like it should affect things.

Please can someone help to troubleshoot.

Hi Estaban,

With the amount of reports for the same issue, I’m not willing to concede this is a straight up hardware issue. It seems more like firmware. There must be a way to analyse/factory reset the audio adapter?

I’ve now tried this on multiple controllers, multiple xbox units, and multiple USB ports. Surely there must be something else that can ve done. This doesnt just stop working overnight unless some update to the xbox/controller has affected it.

Tried force updating even though it said no update available. It does 100% followed by ‘No updates needed’. Problem still remains.

Ive tried this with both charger cable connected and also wirelessly. Same result.

Hi Parity,

I followed your instructions exactly, but the issue still remains. Mute button light is on, and will not turn off. Tried updating the controller again, and still the same.

Please can someone help? Has a recent xbox update or controller update even caused this?

There needs to be a definitive answer to this common problem. Do you have the option to force update?

The only fix I've seen is this (but it hasn't worked for everyone):

1. Settings

2. Kinect and Devices

3. Devices and Accessories

Click 3 dots and do a Firmware update with a charger cable connected from console to controller. Even if it says you're up-to-date, update.

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this inconvenience.

Well, the adapter should work with whatever headset can fit in it, and iPhone stuff should not normally affect it.

If the issue persistent with other controllers or on other consoles, then I would suggest replacing the adapter.

If you had gotten it within 90 days and have proof of purchase, you can always contact
customer support
and see if they can help you with that.
