Xbox One Controller and Wired Headset Multi-pin USB Damage

I have a white Sunset Overdrive bundle controller and stock wired headset both displaying damage to the gold multi-pin connectors inside the USB port. The fourth pin counting from the left in the headset connection is bent out of place, and the third or
fourth from the right is missing half of its length. The fourth pin connector from the right in the port on the controller is completely missing, likely due to the bent pin in the headset port on that side. The headset turns on when connected and the volume
controls work, but no audio can be sent or received in any game or app nor does chat play through the tv when connected. I believe the damage resulted from normal use, connecting and disconnecting the headset many times. I treat my controllers and other accessories
very well, in my opinion, and purchased this bundle the week of its release so I believe it's still warranted. My question is, is this damage covered or repairable?

    :)

    USB Headset

So i bought an Xbox one today for some multiplayer gaming.

Plenty of usb ports but usb headset won't work.

Apparently i have to buy a new headset with a 3.5km Jack and plug it into the 'wireless' controller making it a wired controller.

How bizarre that in 2018 MS don't allow usb accessories to connect to Xbox one usb ports.

I really don't want cables hanging from the wireless controller. Will digital headsets work if plugged into the optical port on the console?

Running Low on AA Batteries? Can't afford play and charge kit?

Just plug any micro usb cable you have laying around (comes included with your smartphone Samsung Galaxy or Windows Phone) into the xbox one controller and presto you now have a wired controller.

Yup, QFT, nipped out and bought a micro usb this morning, I have batteries that recharge for my single player games, and a usb cable to turn my controller wired for BF and other multi player games, I have always preferred wired for on-line play.

Autoscrolling on main menu doesn't allow me to do anything.

it could be the wired controller having a damaged USB lead or socket.

was the wired controller connected when you tested the wireless controller?

try unplugging the wired controller to rule that out.

I use 2 wired controllers and I had this problem when the lead for 1 became damaged (I replaced the USB lead and it fixed it)

    controller settings

Would one of those usb hub thingys work to allow four wired controls on an Xbox? Imagine it would work kinda like the PS2's multi-tap.

    Microphone problems

There are two standards for headphone jacks called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards, the Microphone pin and Ground pin are reversed.

The Xbox Controller requires the headset connector to be CTIA. If you say the headset works on other devices (e.g. your smartphone), it could very well be, that your headset has an OMTP pin layout, and since the controller is now "listening" on the headset's
ground pin, you might get a buzzing sound, especially if your controller is charging or connected via USB, and the controller's ground noise is "talking" to the microphone pin of your headset.

Try to find an OMTP to CTIA adapter online or in a smartphone shop. Since everything the adapter does is crossing two wires, the adapter works both ways (so you can also get a CTIA to OMTP adapter and vice versa), and the adapter should be very cheap.

If a store asks more for the adapter than you'd normally pay for a coffee to go, you are being ripped off.

    X box one controller

...we have tried different head phones and it still does not work any idea or do i need to send the controller back.
Are the headphones official Xbox headsets with a large connector that looks like an USB plug, or is that a third party headset with a 3.5mm headphone jack and three rings on the connector?

If it is a 3.5mm jack headset, be aware that there are two standards for the 3.5mm jack called OMTP and CTIA. On both standards, the microphone and ground pin are reversed.

So it might be that the controller is listening on the ground pin, while the headset microphone is "talking" to the ground connection on the controller.

If the headset is a OMTP standard headset, you will need a OMTP to CTIA adapter (since the adapter simply crosses two wires, the adapter works also the other way around).

    Thanks
