xbox one controller - A-button does not work correctly

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. I'd be happy to help lead you in the right direction.

Unfortunately Xbox One Standard Wireless controllers are not serialized like a console or the new Xbox One Elite Series 2 Controller, so you won't be able to register the controller since you need to have a registered Xbox One console to set up accessory
orders.

However, there is a webform that allows you to set up a replacement order for a standard controller which you can find from the following link: https://support.xbox.com/xbox-one/controllers/controller-warranty

If the form does not work for you, I'd recommend contacting Xbox Customer support to set up an order for you if you do not own an Xbox One console:

1. Contact us here
2. Select Xbox One
3. Select See other options
4. Select Payment & billing under Account management
5. Select show contact options and go to step 4
6. Select "Request a call from Support" if available within hours of operation or there should be a number for you to call and hours of operation for your region

Can you try to connect the controller with a Micro-USB cable to the console, and check if you're able to correctly use the Xbox home button with the cable?

Does the controller work after you remove the cable again?

Do you have a second controller to check if the other controller's home button works?
