  1. Xbox one controller 3.5mm jack socket

Hi there. After quite a while trying to figure out why my sons expensive headset only worked intermittently and then stopped altogether I finally pulled the controller apart. It’s out of warranty so I went ahead with no fear.

I won’t go on but why would you make the 3.5mm jack socket not be soldered? It is the most ridiculous design I have ever seen and doomed to fail on every single controller sold.

I have thought and thought about it and I have to say the only reason I can find is because you know it will fail and you know you will sell many many more $100 controllers.

I am so disgusted I feel like buying a PS4 for the first time. What have you done to fix this problem?

I feel terrible that I kept telling my son that it wouldn’t be the controller because Microsoft gear was good quality. I feel conned.

    :)

  3. Can I use a standard pair of headphones with a y splitter.

I have a set of headphones which have a 3.5mm jack for audio and a separate 3.5mm jack for the mic. I have the latest xbox one controller with the 3.5mm jack. Can I simply just buy a y splitter for this to work. I understand the y splitter may need to be

Yes, I believe you need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack to connect the headset to the socket in the controller for these headphones to work.

no headset working on Xbox one

Its a design flaw. The 3.5mm jack socket isn’t fixed in place inside the controllers. We have 3 xbox ones and 6 controllers, 3 of them no longer pick up the headsets through the jack. I did take one apart and cleaned the connection up on the circuitboard
and pins on the jack socket.. it worked for a while but constant use just knocks it loose again.

    Xbox Headset and controller

It could well be the 3.5mm jack socket that has been damaged. If you can, try your headset on a friends controller, to see if it works. The cheapest way around this is a headset adapter, that plugs into the controller and has a 3.5mm jack in it.

How to unmute mic on Xbox One S

It could be that the 3.5mm jack socket has got damaged. If you have a friend or another controller try it on that. The adapter that {Parity} mentions is for stereo headsets on the original Xbox One controllers. This has been found to rectify the issues of
a broken 3.5mm jack socket and considerably cheaper than a new controller.

Edit: I have added this link so you know what the adapter looks like. There are plenty of other retailers selling these, this is just for example: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Turtle-Bea...+chat+adapter&qid=1562244531&s=gateway&sr=8-3

Unable to find microphone - mic striked through

    Hi there,

    Many thanks for your message.

I am using the 3.5mm socket for the headset - it's one that connects to the Xbox via usb and also 3.5mm jack. I've tried several headsets just using the usb (official Mircosoft headset), regular earphones and a gaming headset. I find it odd that all 4 of
my controllers (one of which I bought for my son only 1 month ago) could all have faulty 3.5mm jacks.

I did update controller firmware on all 4 of my controllers - again with no luck.

    Thanks again!
