Xbox One constantly looses connection to External USB

Title says it all. Video constantly drops while watching videos from my external HDD. It is extremely frustrating. I have tried trouble shooting and scoured forum after forum for a fix and have not found one that shows a successful fix. At this point I am
reaching out to hopefully get some help to fix this issue. I am using a 1TB Seagate external laptop drive model #SRD00F1. The drive will drop at random intervals, there is no consistency in drops. When the video drops the Xbox goes to the player select screen
that shows your connected devices. My external still is shown and I can select it after I hit "A" to get out of the connection error message. I have tried other external drives and thumb drives to test and each one still drops. Ive gone though and made sure
video files are compatible with the files that can be read by the Xbox one. Not sure what to do next.

External hard drive malfunction

Is your console an Xbox 360 or Xbox One ?

Double check if the external hard drive is actually being detected, sometimes the USB connection might be loose. If the external hard drive is not detected, turn off the console

and then double check the USB connector is firmly plugged in, then turn console back on and see if external hard drive appears.

Also another thing to check... some brands of external hard drive have a power light when turned on. Check if the power light is on.

 

My Xbox is acting strange

I recently got some new games, a new pair of headphones, and an external hardrive for my Xbox one, and recently, I have been having several problems with my Xbox. I am frequently disconnected from parties. My Games crash or loose connection constantly. And
in some cases, when I'm wearing headphones, the audio will stop and becomes replaced by a load static-ish noise. Any ideas?

 

It may be a problem with the USB port you're using. Are you using the ones in the back (2.0) or the ones on the side (3.0)? I only ask because I have similar problems using the back ports, while the two on the side have not given me a single issue when using
a newer HDD.

 

I am using the USB ports in the back. I will try out the port on the side and report back with my results. Thank you for the suggestion! =) Is there an issue with the 2.0 ports in the back? I was able to watch my videos just fine on my 360 with their 2.0
ports.

 

As a side note. Just looked up the specs on the Xbox One, it shows that all the ports are 3.0. Even the 2 in the rear. Since that is the case it sounds like it could just be a programing issue on Microsofts end. There isn't a reason that the 3.0 ports are
loosing connection with an external HDD with 3.0 connections.

I get this constantly too. I'm using the side USB port. The stick is a USB3 Sandisk and when I plug it in my 360 it works fine with no disconnections. I have also had the same issue with other sticks in the XB1 too.

I have two HDD's permanently plugged into the back on my XB1 and they never have an issue. Is it something to do with people who are using external storage and also play media on a stick? Last bit of info, Im on the Beta Dashboard program.

Hope all that helps t get this sorted as Ive gone back to the good old 360 for media playback.

 

Wanted to come back and update on my findings with the side USB port. It still drops. I tried with my other USB devices and still the same outcome.
