Xbox one console near Microwave

I'm currently living in a dorm and as you might expect it's pretty tight on space. I have had to resort to putting my microwave about a foot away from my Xbox one. Will the microwave affect the Xbox in anyway that might lead to permanent damage or any other
kind of harm?

Hey there.

Sounds like either you WiFi adapter inside the console has gone bad or you have some heavy interference near your console.

First just make sure that you have nothing near your console that can cause interference, e.g. speaker, microwave, router etc.

If that all seems cool, first try a power cycle of your console by holding the power button for 5-10 seconds (with the console on), then disconnect from the power for about 1 minute.

If that doesn't help, there's one last thing you can try before shipping it off to be serviced, and that is a factory reset. I would recommend doing one via USB by following the instructions here:

If none of that works then unfortunately you'll need to send in your console for service which can be done here:
Device support centre

 

It will mess with your wi-fi signal for sure. Other than that I don't know.

 

Microwaves cause electromagnetic fields. Not great for a lot of electronic devices, especially wifi, according to a quick search. Even support on this site recommends moving the Xbox away from microwaves (among other devices) in order to fix issues with
controllers disconnecting... which I would expect to happen if it's too close.

I don't know much about computers and stuff, but it is probably a safe guess that your Wi-Fi Signal Strenght is probaby going to be bad given its proximity to the microwave.

As others have said it's probably best to find another place for your Xbox.

 

If I were you I would put it near the TV rather then the microwave. I dont say for sure there would be a problem by why mess with fate ?

 

I'd rather have my Xbox near a microwave than my food.

 

Don't put it near a microwave lol. Can't you put up a shelf or something like that?

 

You may eat a lot while gaming also.

My den is next to the kitchen, so my brother's console often got interference from the microwave whenever it was used, since it affected the wireless signal. We fixed it by switching our network from the 2.4ghz band to the 5ghz band.
