  1. Xbox one console making clicking noise AND now games are running slowly (offline)

I wanted to post here before I called MS. Let me start by saying I have all the latest firmware updates.

Since first getting my xbox one, it was intermittently make this low 'clicking' type noise for brief periods of time.

I was at first worried but an internet search led me to believe the sound was coming from a fan in power brick (does the power brick even have a fan). I've recently moved the power brick and am now 100% sure its my console.

From my experience with PC's, It almost sounds like something is hitting a fan inside the console, but I think the sound s justt a little to slow for that. I never contacted anyone because it wasn't a huge deal and I figured it was likely nothing. I also
    rarely play my xbox one.

Lately I have been playing it more, and just bout two weeks ago I noticed many games would kinda freeze and jitter momentarily (like a drastic fame rate drop)-- this is all offline play and it usally happens when higher processing power would be required
(One example is during a interception in Madden 25 where you the system goes from processing for offense to defense quickly-but this problem is hardly limited to Madden). Also this happens with games played from a disc as well as games played from the hard
drive (so its not a problem with the disc reader).

I disabled the game DVR and even Kinect functionality and this helped slightly but not completely. I have also done a full reboot of the system and that was of no help.

Between this random clicking noise and the lagging (offline) gameplay even though the issue almost seems like lag, I'm starting to worry there is something wrong with my system, not to mention the clicking noise that sometimes comes from the console.

Thanks for the support. Let me know if I can help by providing more info.

Please feel free to have someone call me to help address the problem. If the system is experiencing these problems after hardly any use I fear what will happen over time.

    :)

  2. Xbox One making clicking noise

About a few days ago my Xbox has been making this awful clicking noise whenever turned on (does it sometimes when turned off) and it causes the Xbox to lag and the load time has extremely increased. A message will pop up every now and the saying "xbox home
(or settings) has taken too long to load" and will sometimes just turn itself off. But mainly it takes forever for it to do anything such as load games, open apps, or something as simple as opening the setting menu. It will sometimes, rarely, stop making the
noise and work fine. any advice? Thanks!

Here is a link to a video I recorded of the Xbox making the noise

  3. Xbox One Noise

I too am experiencing this. I now have my 5th Xbox One and once I apply this update, the console turns it's self off, turn's it self back on and I can then hear the fan making a clicking noise along with some static at times.

I'm certain that your console is faulty. The clicking noise you are hearing may actually be coming from the hard drive. Faulty hard drives can make this sound it's own as the 'hard drive click of death'. Since all Xbox One games need to be installed to
the hard drive, the crashes could well be related to this.

This isn't an issue that regularly pops up on the Xbox One, after all, it only uses the same type of hard drive as your typical laptop. I think this is where your issue is.

Either way it needs to be replaced/repaired.

  5. The hard drive the original one that came with the system. I NEVER opened or touhed the system in anyway.

  6. I never said you did. Your console must have had a faulty hard drive from the day you bought the console. In which case you need to have the console replaced or repaired. All of your content and save games will all still be available for download on the
replacement console. You won't lose a thing.

The clicking noise is not a good sign and should not be happening.

  7. I just don't think its the HD because the interval between each click is too long for something that spins as fast as a hard drive (maybe a half second). Also it doesn't happen all the time, it'll maybe make a dozen 'clicks' in a hour. If it was the HD
it would just be different. (I also believe the clicks occur in intervals of 3 but am not sure about this). I actually wish it was something simple like the HD.

Is the console still under warranty?

I've barely even used the thing; I've had it like 8 months but in that time haven't even used it for 40 hours. I should have reported it right away but thought it was just a fan in the power brick. Now that some games 'stutter' I realize something more serious
    is happening.

I want to add to this thread my ongoing issues. I am on console #3 for the day. I bought the Madden 15 bundle, and it makes a loud, audible clicking noise....like an old hdd would make. It never stopped making this sound until you installed and played
a game, then it would stop. But if you went back to the dashboard/home screen it would return. I returned that console to Gamestop, they gave me a new one....same issue.

So fed up as I am, I said "screw" the Madden bundle and give me a regular Xbox one. Now this one seems to be suffering from the same issue as the previous ones. At this point I no longer know what to do. I'm leaning on calling Xbox support and seeing
what they will do for me? I just don't know what to do anymore...

  9. I'm in the same boat as 'HC Raven Rages' - picked up the Madden bundle and it was making the "old hdd noises," sounds kind of like a fan bumping a wire or something.. So I took it back to Gamestop and they replaced it with a new one. Box #2 is having the
same problem, maybe even a little louder than the first, but I'm downloading all the updates to see if that clears it up somehow. My next thought was to ditch the Madden bundle but apparently that's not the solution.

The guy at Gamestop (real nice guy) said to bring it in tomorrow morning if it's still making the noise and he'll replace it again, but he doesn't think it will make a difference. I could deal with the noise during a game of Madden, but it would drive me
crazy if I were watching Netflix or using other apps. I'm wondering if there was a huge shipment of defective consoles and they just haven't realized it yet.

The only way to fix this issue is by sending it away to be repaired at a microsoft service centre, quite a few people still get the same problem by exchanging at the retailers.

  11. Just lined up an advanced exchange. For ~$16 they send me a refurbished console and when it gets here I ship back the noisy one.

Really hope the one they send me is quiet. I already feel abused by the whole ordeal, but if they send me a used console with the same problem I'll be done with Microsoft for good.

Don't forget, other gamers sent in those refurbished consoles because of problems, so MS fixes those problems and then send it out to other gamers. So, in a way, I feel better getting a refurbished.

Yea. I just picked up the madden bundle a couple of days ago and was experiencing the same noises. Very annoying as I don't watch things very loud so I can still hear it lol. So I returned to the store, got another madden bundled unit and exact same issue.
Thinking advance replacement is going to be the way to go. Frustrating but as long as I have a quiet, working unit by the end of next week I'll be happy.
