Is this happening on the Xbox 360 or are you accessing Xbox 360 games on an Xbox One platform? Is it all games that are freezing or a select few only?

If this is for an Xbox One Platform, try power cycling your Xbox One console:

1. Turn off your console by holding the Xbox button on the front of the console for approximately 10 seconds. The console will power down.
2. Turn your console back on by pressing the Xbox button on the console or the
   Xbox button on your controller.

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this freezing issue while trying to play with your console.

I doubt that it is your avatar. It might be stemming from a problem with your console communicating with Xbox Live or running the game period.

If you don't mind me asking, which console are you playing the game on? Xbox 360 or Xbox One?

One the One, I'd say your best course of action is for you to try the steps on "My Xbox One game won't start or freezes during gameplay".
