Xbox One completely powering down with external HD attached.

Hi guys, I just bought a WD My Passport 2TB drive. I'm not sure if it's the reason for this, but in the past two days, when ever I turn my Xbox One off, I come back later to find that it powered completely down. I get the green boot screen and everything.
This is after I've set my Xbox to download items during standby mode. The option to shut off the external hard drive when I turn my Xbox off is NOT checked. My Xbox is set to Instant On, and it is also set to NOT turn off automatically after a set period of
time. Has anyone else seen this?

Sorry to hear about the trouble with starting up your Xbox One. To start things off, please try fully powering down your Xbox One by holding down the power button for 8-10 seconds. Once your Xbox One is shut off, unplug it completely and wait 30 seconds, then

Console freezes with external HD attached

I have a 1tb western digital my passport ultra external hard drive. At random times the console will freeze when opening the store, launching apps and singing in. If I unplug the external drive the console will unfreeze and open the app, store, etc....
The hard drive works fine on a pc. Reformatting the drive seems to correct the problem for a few days but the freezing always returns. It may just be a bad drive but I wanted to submit this issue in case its an Xbox OS bug.

Hey there, Pug Apocalypse!

I'm sorry to hear about your problem with the Xbox and WD My Passport.

I'd suggest to start the console without the external plugged in. After the Xbox boots - plug the WD Passport in and see if it gets recognized properly.

You should also check how's the system cache and clear it.

If it doesn't work, I'd suggest to plug the drive in your computer and see if it gets recognized there, you can also test it using Data LifeGuard Diagnostics:

support.wdc.com/.../download.asp

On your computer, you can backup the data and reformat the drive, it should help and stop making this annoying shutdown of the Xbox.

If any errors pop up during the tests of the WD Passport. I'd suggest contacting our tech support for assistance and RMA-ing your drive.

Maybe try this:

Turn off the Xbox 360 completely.
Disconnect all cables and devices from the console.
Remove the external hard drive if one is attached.
Reconnect the power source and restart the console.
Shut down the console and reattach the hard drive.

its an external or internal attachment you must buy depending on your model

if it is the old arcade units it an external hd (you need an offical xbox one) or the internal 250 gig hd s for the 4 gig xbox s units

Hey there!

I'm sorry to hear about this issue pertaining to a loud buzzing noise coming from the Xbox during installation. I'd be happy to try and help. Do you have an external HD or do you save everything to the internal HD?

I would also suggest to try some of the basic troubleshooting on the Xbox One. First perform a complete

power cycle on your Xbox.

Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down completely.
Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 5 minutes.
Plug the console power cable back in.
Press the Xbox button on your console to turn on the Xbox One.

Let us know if the console still makes buzzing noises after the power cycle.
