xbox one classic-play and charge kit issue?

I'm using the first gen xbox one 1tb console and my play and charge kit cable light wont come on and the system doesnt acknowledge the fact the cable is plugged in eg no charging. I can however use it as a wired controller, but thats about all the functionality
the kit grants under current conditions. I had to power cycle my console just to get it to register that I've actually plugged the ruddy cable into the controller.

seems to work with the least issues when I plug it in whilst the system is off, whereupon it actually DOES charge and no my system isnt in 'fast startup' mode.

there is a near identical issue with the xbox one s controller, which far as I've been able to determine, uses the exact same play and charge kit as the classic xbox one. https://forums.xbox.com/xbox_support/xbox_one_support/f/4677/t/2194491.aspx the only
difference is this started on july 30th for me, before the update was posted to the general community at large.

Sorry to hear about the charging troubles you're experiencing. Do you have a spare USB cable you can test with your controller to see if there's any change? Let us know! That can help us narrow down the trouble you're experiencing.

 

I grabbed my samsung tablet's cable and hooked in(this time using one of the two rear usb ports), same result though now it goes from the battery icon to an icon I presume to indicate that the controller is plugged in, but again, does not appear to be supplying
a charge to the battery, merely converting it from a wireless to a wired controller.

this tells me its not the battery pack, or cable as they both function as designed and intended from a cold boot...eg plug it in and it charges.. I'm starting to wonder if the recent update didnt break something.

I once more had to power down and then turn the system back on to restore the functionality.

what I had been doing prior to this was playing halo 5, I finished my session, went to the home screen, and quit out of the game like usual, then I ejected the disc and proceeded to plug the controller in to top off the charge.
