Xbox One chat icon is always on even with no mic or kinect connected, headset mic don't ...

Hi, over the past month I have been experiencing issues with my standard Xbox One headset mic. I could hear, adjust the volume, illuminate the mute, but can not be heard. I tried everything, I mean everything! I did hard resets, opened ports, turned kinect
chat off, made sure nothing was muted, fresh batteries, signed in manually, stood in front of kinect with the controller, tried another controller, replaced the headset, clear mac settings and Blu-ray memory, you name it more than likely I tried it. I can
only chat through kinect which does no good with Destiny because it doesn't support kinect. Now a new problem has started. My XBOX is recognizing a mic even when none is connected, headset or kinect. I think my system is slowly dying. I've run out of options
and was wondering if Microsoft is aware of this problem. I have seen many other forums on this and similar issues with no fix so it seems pretty wide spread. Is it an update issue, are they releasing a patch? All I been getting is obvious answers from troubleshooting.
Do I have to replace my console over a chat issue? I've been with XBOX since the first one and refused to buy a PS4, I'm beginning to regret my decision.

    :)

  2. Xbox One Chat mic not working.---Help us All Out..PLease

To clarify my issue for comparison. I can hear other people with the Xbox One Chat Headset. They cannot hear me. In addition the mic icon in the Xbox Live Party Chat Menu is ALWAYS ON regardless of whether or not the mic is plugged in or the controller is
on or off. The mic icon is ALWAYS ON.

  3. Lost Headphone sound, no wireless controller volume controls. mic always muted

Pretty new Xbox One S (3 months or so), but somehow my headphone sound is gone. I have tested with both iphone ear buds (they used to work plugged directly into wireless controller) and with a new headset with mic, and neither is working, but the sound works
for both when connected to other devices. I cannot access volume controls on wireless controller either. I have followed just about every guide out there with no luck.

Also, I've never messed with a mic before this new headset, but the mic icon on the Xbox is always muted, even though the mic is enabled in settings, and on from headset itself. (All privacy settings are pretty much allow everybody)

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

been about a week stuck with this dilemma.

I Still have no solution, now I'm beginning to hear a annoying crackling noise in my headset too. As you see no one has responded with anything yet. I think they don't have answer either. Patiently waiting on the October update to see if it's patched.

I have had this problem ever since I bought an xb1 a month or two ago. This is the first time I've seen anyone online mention it. I've also tried everything I could think of and then some with no luck.

Okay so I went back to Best Buy and with my 2 year service plan was able to exchange my Xbox One for a new one. They had to pull a few strings because they can't get systems bundled with the Kinect anymore but they made it happen by giving me the Kinect
and Xbox One separate. This time it works perfectly, which leads me to believe that it is a software issue within the Xbox itself. I even tried it with my old controller and my mic works perfectly, not to mention Kinect seems to be more responsive to voice
and motion. If anything comes up I'll post, but you may need to replace your One if this issue comes up unless they can patch it. Pay attention Microsoft please!

A bit late here, but I'm a little low on money and refuse to buy another xbox one, not knowing what the actual problem is. I've been having the EXACT problem too and I'm still wondering if it's a controller or mic issue. Microsoft told me they were leaning
more towards a mic problem, but that doesn't really explain the mic signal showing up as if it were plugged into my controller when it really isn't. I really need a solution to this, I just started making YouTube videos and of course this would happen when
I need my mic the most. Microsoft, or anyone with a solution PLEASE respond. Xbox One chat icon is always on even with no mic or kinect connected, headset mic don't ... :(

I had this same problem and after looking closer to the headset adapter plugin, there was a little piece of plastic stuck in the left side of the port, popped the plastic out and its working perfectly again. May have come from Microsoft that way?

me and 3 friends with brand new xb1's can confirm that this is a widespread software issue the only solution is to fully reset the xbox by unplugging it or holding down the button for 15 secs. Its just started around october like the poster stated. MS needs
    to do somthing

    Xbox One Headset Included

So a couple questions I have is if you are in private chat or group chat with a headset/mic, do you give the XB1 commands through the headset/mic or via the Kinect mic? Also, if you are in private chat or group chat via the Kinect mic, can you still give
commands to the XB1 through the Kinect mic?

Day one update - Add the blueray option

Xbox One comes with Kinect it can be used as a mic. If you don't want to use Kinect as a mic then buy a headset. I have no problem using Kinect as a mic.

should be able to use Kinect and a headset at the same time

You could always get the headset adapter which will allow you to use your headset mic with the Xbox one controller which would eliminate the need to use the kinect mic.

    Audio/Microphone Issues

@Mister Urkel - same issue here, here is my setup.

I am using a Tritton Gears of War 5.1 Surround headset. The mic cable on this was designed to work on Xbox 360, so the microphone isn't plugged in at all. Which is good, because then there's no way for the headset to interfere with the Kinect.

The headset is plugged in to the Optical Out on the back of the Xbox One. The Mic Cable doesn't interact with the system at all, it actually connects to a little volume control which is about halfway between the headset and the mixer box. So, the mic cable
    isn't plugged in at all.

Now, with the "Use Kinect for Chat" option turned on, when I go into CoD Ghosts multiplayer, the Kinect Mic does not work. I can issue Voice Commands and participate in Party Chat, however the regular "in-game voice" does not work. So, if I'm just talking
to people in a free-for-all match, they don't hear me (also, there is no Microphone icon next to my name in the lobby.) If I plug in my wired Xbox Headset that came with the One, I can be heard, but the audio goes to the Xbox headset, so I can't hear other
    voices in my headphones anymore.
