Xbox one changing email address

So for years now my xbox gamertag(first with 360 and now Xbox one) was linked to a hotmail email address that I haven't used for a long time. I finally decided to try to change it to my new email address which is an Outlook email address, I thought this
would be a simple process - boy was I wrong! I went on the Microsoft website and clicked on the link to add an email address. It took me through to an add an alias page. I clicked on the option to "Add an existing email address as a Microsoft account alias"
When I entered my existing Outlook email address a message came up saying - "This email address is already taken. Please try another one." I know the mail address is already taken - I'm the one who owns it!

I contacted Xbox Live chat support and talked to someone who with all due respect clearly had no idea what he was talking about. After a painful 45 minutes he told me that you couldn't add an alias from another Microsoft account. Is this correct? I find
it hard to believe that I'm the only person who has ever wanted to change the email address connected to their gamertag from one Microsoft email address to another Microsoft email address.

I asked to speak to someone else as just from the way he was saying everything he didn't come across as convinced. I got put through to a manger after 25 minutes and they pretty much just read through the chat log and repeated the same thing before hanging
up!

Because my gamertag 11 years ago was linked to a hotmail email account that means that it's now impossible to use any other Microsoft email account with my gamertag?

How to Change your Xbox LIVE account information

Overview

It is possible to change information associated with your Xbox LIVE account like your name, address, phone number or email address.

Note: You cannot change the country that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account. If you have moved to another country and you would like to access Xbox LIVE from there, you have to create a new Xbox LIVE account in your new location.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on Xbox.com

1) Go to My Account and Sign In with your Microsoft Account. (This is the email and password that is associated with your Xbox LIVE account).

2) Make the changes you want to your billings account information and then click Save.

How to Change your name, address, phone number or email on your console.

1) Sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag.

2) Proceed to Settings, and then select Account.

3) Select Your Information, and then go to Billing Information.

4) Sign In with your Microsoft account password.

5) Change your billing account information and then click Done.

In case you want to change the billing name on your Xbox LIVE account, go to Xbox.com

hi all,

does anyone know how i change the email address for my xbox, as i can no longer access the one linked to it, thanks in advance.

If it is a Microsoft server email (@outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, @msn.com) these are already Microsoft accounts so can not be added to a different Microsoft account.

So the agent and the supervisor were correct.

When you go to the account.live.com/addassocid site it gives you a choice to either create a NEW outlook account or use an existing email (anything other then a Microsoft server email like Gmail, Yahoo, ISP email) as long as they are already not connected
to a Microsoft account.

The key is that the email that you are wanting to add can not be connected to a different Microsoft account and with the Microsoft server emails once they are created they automatically become their own Microsoft accounts. Hence the reason you can not add
them as an alias to an existing Microsoft account.

Just change the email address on xbox account 2 to some free email address and once that is done change the email address on Account 1 to the address that was on account 2.

Please sign in on your Xbox One S and go to the settings.

Under Account choose Sign in & Security and under "Show on Home" check the email address shown on there.

Did that email change?

Then on the Xbox One X check your account and the email address shown in the settings there. Are these both the same email?

Did you change your Gamertag name recently?

Do you have an Xbox account too? Or did you just set up his account with your email?

If your email was just used to set up his account, then you should be able to change it to something else by going through the steps on the following support page:

Hello Bryan,

Nilay here and I'm glad to answer your query today.

1. Sign in to your Hotmail email via https://account.microsoft.com.
2. Go to Your info at the top of the page.
3. Select Manage how you sign in to Microsoft.
4. Select Add email. You can create either a new Outlook.com email address or add an address that you already have. Then, select Add alias. After you’re returned to the previous screen, select Verify, and then follow the instructions that are provided.

Once done, make sure to select the new email address as the primary alias because removing the old email which is your Hotmail will delete the whole Microsoft account including the Xbox profile.

Select a new primary before you remove the old one. To do so, select one of the other aliases that are on the account, and then select Make primary.
