Xbox One Can't move content from Internal to External storage

    Xbox One Can't move content from Internal to External storage


    I have a western digital 2TB USB 3.0 external hard drive set up with my Xbox, and while it is detected and I can see the apps and games I have on there, I can't transfer any games from my internal to external. I've already transferred games between in the
    past, so I know it can do that, but now when I go to any games in my internal and go to its options, "Move" isn't an option, only uninstalling it. This is the same with my internal games as well. The external hard drive is only a 25% full so that's not the
    issue. I've tried to hard reset and changing the hard drive to a different USB port.

    Heya AllMerePlayers!

    Apologies for the delay. You mentioned most content is installed to an external drive, are you able to move some of that to your Xbox One console's internal drive? Once it's saved to your internal drive, remove your external storage device and try playing
    without that.

    Let us know Xbox One Can't move content from Internal to External storage :)

    ok , I found out how to do it . Find the settings then go to System then from System find the column that has Storage listed at the top. Underneath it should have "Manage Storage" . Then when I click on that it says Storage Select a device to see its options and I have an Internal and my formatted X box external hard drive . Move the Highlight from the Internal to the External hard drive and click the "A" button on the controller and it brings up a list
    View Contents , Install here by default , Rename , and Format.
    So just highlight the Install here by Default and your games will install on the External hard drive instead of the Internal.

    Hey there laynlow247,

    Have you updated the console's software? Have you changed anything else? You could try doing this with games that you have moved before and see if it works.

    I'd also try another drive (if you have laying around) and see if the problem comes from the WD drive or not.

    To verify that the WD drive works fine I'd connect it to a PC and run WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool and see if the drive passes both the quick and the extended tests. Have in mind that the extended test would take quite a while. If the drive passes both
    tests it should be safe to use and the problem should be coming from elsewhere. Here's a link to the tool:

    Contacting the manufacturer's support can also be useful!

    DLC and Compatibility Packs not working.

    Hey there TinFour.

    If the DLC isn't being registered at all, the issue may come down to your current storage option. Are you using an external or internal storage device? If you're saving externally, try moving that content to internal storage to see if there's a change. Alternatively,
    try downloading the content onto a different external device.

    The issue is on the x box one.

    I have an external hard drive and xbox storage card installed.

    I tried moving the game and content from the xbox storage card to internal storage.

    Issue only appears on the demon slayer game.

    No other fixes tried.

    If non nvme like ssd or mechanical drive rhen no it can't be installed on it

    Either the xbox series x storage cards or internal nvme only

    Patched or upgraded games must be stored on internal or storage card

    Ir can be stored on external drives but can't run or upgrade from external

    Must be moved internallu

    Hello there,

    Thanks for coming to the forums with your question. Here is a guide on
    managing storage.     To move from the internal you will want to go to storage, make sure it shows both internal and external.

    1. Open the Settings app on Xbox One.
    2. Navigate to the System tab.
    3. Select Storage.
    4. Scroll over to the right to select the drive to move content from.
    5. Select Transfer.
    6. Select items you plan to transfer. If moving all items, choose Select all.
