Xbox one can't detect my headset

Discus and support Xbox one can't detect my headset in XBoX Games and Apps to solve the problem; Hi. My son cannot use xbox live to communicate with friends as the following message keeps appearing:- 'We were unable to find a microphone for these...     Xbox one can't detect my headset


    Hi. My son cannot use xbox live to communicate with friends as the following message keeps appearing:-

    'We were unable to find a microphone for these people'.

    By these people it is referring to my son as at this stage there is no one else in the party.

    He is using a controller with 3.5mm jack adaptor. I have bought a new adaptor, tried various headsets, reassigned the controller to his gamertag, updated the controller by connecting USB - nothing works. (When i press the mute button nothing happens' it
    doesnt light up.)

    He has always used xbox live without a problem and this has only recently started happening.

    Suggestions please?

    Are you able to test another headset to verify if the issue is the controller or the headset?

    Let's see if we can figure out what may be going on here. What headset is your son trying to use and what adapter is he using? Are you able to try the headset on a different Xbox One controller? If the console is currently connected to the network wirelessly,
    I would recommend trying a wired connection to see if that helps. You can also check out the

    NAT troubleshooter     to make sure that the console's NAT is open.

    Work through that and then let us know. Xbox one can't detect my headset :)

    I'm trying to start a message and I don't have the option to use a mic (it's greyed out, probably because it doesn't detect one as being plugged in.

    I can't hear any sound coming through the headset either.

    The firmware is updated and there are no updates available.

    I just checked the headset on my phone and they work perfectly fine.

    Hello Littlsmudge14,

    We thank you for bringing this inquiry to our forums community, and understand that this concerns an inability for your son to utilize his headset with his controller on his Xbox One console.

    A line through the microphone indicates that the microphone is not being detected, or in some cases, that the headset is not being detected. To test this, you can try the headset with another controller if available, or you may also try a different headset
    with the same controller if available.

    This will more than likely deal with the audio jack at the bottom of the controller, and we recommend attempting to follow our
    Xbox One Chat Headset troubleshooting support article as it provides steps to assist with headset detection in general.

    Try this out for us and then let us know the results.
