XBox One can't detect external harddisk after Systemupdate

yesterday i did a systemupdate on my XBox One S and after that the external harddisks cannot be detected anymore. A normal USB-Stick works fine but external 4TB harddisk has gone. On a PC i still can see the harddrive normally.

I resettet the whole XBox but as the systemupdate still remains the harddrive still won't be detected. Plugin, plugout, 10 seconds X-Button, complete reboot. Nothing helped so far. Is it somehow possible to manually downgrade the systemupdate?

    :)

Hi, under normal circumstances you can't roll back a system update, the only exception to that I am aware of is if your Xbox is using the insider update you can leave the insider program and the Xbox will roll back to the latest public release.

Did you try everything on this link.

    https://support.xbox.com/games/troubleshooting/console-doesnt-detect-external-storage

If so and things still aren't working and the Xbox isn't even seeing the hard drive at all you may end up having to format the hard drive on your PC before reconnecting it to the Xbox.

In some instances after a system update it may look like all your games etc on the external are gone, more often than not if you just wait the Xbox will show the contents, this can take a while depending on how much data there is on the external drive.

Connecting the hard drive to a PC can also cause issue, in which case the only thing to try would be a format of the hard drive on your PC then trying the drive on your Xbox.

I had the same problem. I tried everything I could think of - rebooting all my gear, unplugging/replugging the hard drive, trying all of the USB ports, trying a different USB cable, a factory reset of the console (both options) - nothing worked.

Just as in your case, the drive could be seen in Disk Management in Windows.

I ended up having to format the drive in Windows and then when I connected it to the Xbox, it was recognised and I could format it for use as console storage. I had 7TB of data on my drive, so it sucked that I had to do this, but it's not the first time
this has happened after a system update. I had the exact same thing happen once before with a 4TB drive and I ended up having to format that too.

What sucks even more is that even though my drive is now recognised by the console, it's not turning off properly anymore: -

If I use instant on mode, when I turn the console off, the hard drive constantly cycles on/off endlessly. Even when there's nothing on it, this happens. Changing settings on the console, such as the option to turn off external storage when the console is
turned off makes no difference at all. This is also an issue I've had before, around 2 years ago, and it was also triggered by a system update.

To make matters worse, even if I use energy saving mode, my hard drive doesn't properly turn off anymore. The light on it turns off, but the drive inside spins away indefinitely and the only way to get it to stop is to disconnect it from the console.

Before this update, when I used instant on mode the drive only span up when the console was off if it was checking for updates, downloading updates or whatever, and the rest of the time it was completely off, and when I used energy saving mode, the drive
would shut completely off when I turned the console off, so the drive was not spinning away and would only turn on and spin up when I turned the console back on.

I've never had so many problems with a product I bought for entertainment purposes.

XBox One can't detect external harddisk after Systemupdate

    XBox help says:

If your console doesn’t detect an external storage drive

Solution 1: Make sure you’ve installed any recent updates to Xbox One

On this one i only can laugh. As this happened the second time for me AFTER A SYSTEM UPDATE the only chance for the Harddisk is to destroy the partition on a pc and reconnect it to the XBox. So AGAIN all data is lost and i have to reinstall 4TB of Gamediscs
and even worse have to redownload all apps and games for about 3 days.
