Xbox One - Can you play a game from disc while another is updating?

You can't play a disc game while installing another disc game

But you can play a disc game while another is downloading, play a download while installing a disc or play a download while installing another download.

Unless you plan on buying the soon to be released "Digital Edition" of the Xbox One S console, you can have both.

A lot of games from large publishers are still sold on physical BluRay discs, that you insert into the console.

But be aware, that the disc itself is just a "proof of purchase", as the console copies the game data from disc to it's internal hard drive. Usually, it has to download updates and game patches, if your console is connected online.

Even with the game installed, you will have to insert the disc to prove ownership of the game.

But every game you get on disc (and many indie-titles) can also be bought and downloaded digitally.

With a digital game license, you also have the "advantage" if your family has two consoles (e.g. you have a console for yourself and your kids/siblings), you can buy a game once, and have one console share your games to everyone playing on that console,
while you can go to another console and still play your games.

Giving you the game twice, so you and another family member can play multiplayer with only one copy of the game, which would not be possible with one disc.

Sorry for the issue with your saves. The only way to play Minecraft Xbox one edition is by disc. You can check it out here on the

Minecraft updates and versions.

Note To play Minecraft: Xbox One Edition from a disc, you’ll need to install it while in offline mode on your Xbox One. Once the installation is complete, launch the game before connecting to Xbox Live again. You’ll be able to play
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition from that disc going forward, whether you are online or offline.

Once you do that you can than load your 360 save files to the Xbox one edition.
