Xbox One can no longer read games that are for both Xbox One and Series X

Today I tried to continue playing Assassins Creed Valhalla, which I have played on my Xbox One before, but when I put the disc in it does not read. I then tried with Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, Resident Evil Village and Mass Effect Legendary Collection.

With all the games I get the following message:

"Check your disc

Your disc may be dirty or damaged. Try cleaning it, or choose a different disc. (0x80820003 - %2)"

The xbox still reads older games but does not read anything released during 2020 or later. All of these games are playable on Xbox One but are optimised (or I think have had updates to optimise) for Xbox Series X.

I have tried cleaning the discs, all the troubleshooting that Microsoft give for disc reading errors, the things the automated system told me to try like resets, reinstalling the game whilst offline, etc. Nothing is working.

Are other people experiencing this or am I the only one? Why can my xbox read other games but nothing recent, specifically xbox series x optimised ones?

Obviously it's difficult to get a xbox series x right now, so can I just not play my newer games until I am finally able to get one?

Since this is happening with newer disks alone, I would like you to follow the steps below to check if the console needs a system update:

Make sure that your console is connected to the internet, and then press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
Under Updates, you’ll see:
- Console update available. Select this to begin your update, or
- No console update available. This means your console is up to date.

If this hasn't resolved the issue, it would be best to get to get in touch with our online chat support to get your case checked by the hardware team. First, it is important to point out that a physical game can't be converted to a digital one because the game license is attached to the disc itself.

Besides that, would I know, is an Xbox Series X or Xbox One the one that doesn't read the disc?
Additionally, the other console that read the disc, is an Xbox One, or a Series X?

Moreover, is this EA FC24 for both the Xbox One and Series X, or only for one of those consoles? You can check this by looking at the box.

Are you seeing "FIFA 22 Ultimate Edition Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S"?

It's the edition or bundle that includes both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

If this is the standard edition it will say if it's Xbox One or Xbox Series X game. The Xbox One version though is playable on Xbox Series X as well.

Both games use smart delivery, so can only download the Xbox Series X|S version of the game on the Xbox Series X|S. If you want to play the Xbox One versions, then playing on the Xbox One is your only option.

There appears to be an issue with the Xbox Series X/S version of Grand Theft Auto V being compatible with the Xbox One Xbox One X version. Therefore, the Xbox Store may not allow you to purchase the Xbox Series of the game if you have an Xbox One.

Buy the Xbox One version of Grand Theft Auto V. This version of the game is compatible with Xbox One X and is cheaper than the Xbox Series X/S version. I'm not sure but I think it's no longer available to buy in the store.

If you decide to upgrade your Xbox One X to an Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, you can do so through the Xbox Store or an authorized retailer.
