Xbox One Browser Hijack

I was using the xbox one (Edge) browser yesterday and it got redirected to one of those javascript ransomware/hijack sites where it pops up a message box onload preventing me from closing the tab, changing any settings, open a new tab etc.. As is the browser
is completely unusable obviously, as is the intent of the site.

Unfortunately closing the app, restarting, etc... doesn't seem to help as the browser seems to want to always load the last page it was on, which happens to be the "hijack" site. Even running disconnected doesn't help as the page seems to be cached and still
fires the javascript regardless of network connection. There also doesn't appear to be any settings for the app (until you open it), which prevents me from having it open any other page.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that can be done aside from factory resetting my xbox one to get this app back?

What are you expecting in the "Future Of Xbox"?

I would like a better browser. PS3 already has one and its ok, definitely better than Internet Explorer on Xbox. I just want one that runs smoothly and can do anything a real browser can. I get more out of my browser on my cell phone.

Sorry to hear about this happening, let's go ahead and try a
quick factory reset of the console. Please be sure to keep your games and apps installed when asked to do so during this process. Yes, we know this can be a bit of a pain to try but this should keep that site from showing back up on the console for you.

I do know bfmio is a hijacker, sadly I'm unsure as to how to remove it from the browser on the xbox. I'll research a bit and get back to you if I find anything.

Sounds like your browser may have been hijacked. It can happen from other sites. Try clearing your cache and running a virus scan.

According to your description, your browser was hijacked and opened ads when you were playing Microsoft Solitaire and casual games.

Are you playing this game in the web version or in the Xbox/Microsoft Store program? The hijacking problem may be caused by third-party ads or other reasons.

And if you have not opened the relevant subscription, you may indeed be pushed ads, but your browser should not be hijacked. You can refer to the relevant introduction:

I dont know. I went through all the browser history of all three browsers on my laptop and didn’t find anything shocking. Of course, even well known websites occassionally download rogue cookies and those stupid browser hijacks. I’ve deleted all the cookies
and browsing history so hopefully that fixes it.
