Xbox One Broken - HDD Failure Again

Okay. So first of all, I understand. Electronics breaks after use, and a lot of times in terms of consoles - overuse. But, when I compare my play time to others it baffles me. So, my first Xbox One I owned, broke after 11 months of use. Luckily it broke
when it was still under warranty. But still, I think the idea of a $400 console at the time breaking under a year is absurd. But I understand, this stuff happens.

So, I sent it in. I mean it was going to get fixed for free anyways. So I send it in, a week later I receive a "fixed" Xbox one. But here's the thing, this one didn't work. I called Microsoft support and they said my Xbox was beyond repair and that they
sent me a new one supposedly. To which I responded, well if it's new why doesn't it work. Same error message and everything. They said this shouldn't of happened and to send it back in. So I sent it back in. 2 weeks later, I received another "new" Xbox
one. But, some how this one also was broken. Hard Drive error, didn't work. I called Microsoft support again, and they said the chances of this happening twice let alone once is slim to none. Unbelievable. So I sent it back in. They sent me another one,
arriving 2 weeks later. This one worked. Hooray!

But here's the new problem. This fixed Xbox one worked for 6 months, then crashed. Hard drive error. Broken... Again. And now I'm no longer under warranty and being asked to pay $115 for service repair? Are you kidding me? I've been an Xbox supporter
since original Xbox. I've suffered through the Xbox 360 Red Rings of Death and now this is by far the worst issue I've ever had with an Xbox.

4 broken consoles in under a year and I'm being asked to pay for it. Xbox now are on sale I understand so it almost makes more sense to go buy a new one, but honestly, I don't think I should have to. I'm not saying I'm entitled to special treatment, but
    my god. This is ridiculous.

    :)

  2. Xbox One HDD failure?

Hey all, so I'm having a bunch of issues with my Xbox one. It all started about 6 months ago, just 25 days outside of my warranty, it froze while playing a new game, I believe it was the witcher 3, so I waited 10-20 minutes to see if the problem would resolve
itself, it didn't. I ended up doing a hard restart, wait 30 seconds for the power brick to turn orange, staRt it back up and it was at this point my Xbox started to make some sort of ticking noise, reminding me of a fried hardrive. So I went through the process
of hard restarting, Power swapping, three button reset. Eventually it would turn on, get stuck on the green screen, restart it again and it would start up fine (still ticking) once I got it to turn on I left it on for about a month, it worked fine for literally
four months, even turning it on and off everyday. Fast forward to present day, it's doing the same thing after installing and playing the division, for about 10 hours total (not in one sitting) doing the same routine to get it to turn on, occasionally gettin
e200 and e203 error codes, it worked for about three days leaving it on, played the division for about two hours and the ticking started and game froze, got it to turn back on again, watched Hulu for the night and so far no issues, but I have a feeling when
I start playing division again it will start freezing. i spoke to support when this started happening six months ago and they said to turn it in and they'll replace it ( for 115$). I really rather not do that, so here I am trying to get some advice from the
community before I eventually send it in. Keep in mind if reset the system multiple times, uninstalled and reinstalled games, I think I e done everything short of getting a new HDD and formatting it for the xb1. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi vvakKe,

Sorry you're having this experience with your Xbox Consoles. Your only option would be to
contact customer support, but I'd like to caution you that if the warranty is expired, there is likely nothing they can do. They were correct in stating that the odds of having 4 consoles break
in a year is rare, and basically everyone including myself has had no issues. Understand, that doesn't help here, but hopefully it will ease your mind a bit about the hardware on the console. They are on sale now, and I've seen them go as low as 220.00 for
a 500GB on ebay new lately, and you're correct if you do want it repaired it's likely going to be 115.00. My only advice if you get a new one would be to purchase a 3 year extended warranty. At least you're guaranteed for 3 years with that.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Not sure what you want us to do about your problem, but I will say you have certainly been having bad luck with the internal hard drives.

I do have a suggestion, though. Instead of putting all the wear on the internal hard drive while you play (which I'm assuming is what's been dying all the time), I would recommend you get a

    USB 3.0 external hard drive
by the time you get your Xbox One repaired again or just simply buy a new replacement.

You are kind of "passing the buck" by delegating any future HDD problems to an external source, but it will be at least a user-serviceable one (instead of the headache of complaining to Microsoft and waiting weeks for repairs). In case it ever breaks, you
can just swap the hard drive or deal with the HDD manufacturer's warranty.

I, myself, don't trust the Xbox One hard drive -- what with it being not intended for the user to replace internally (without voiding the warranty). It is also the 500GB model, so my storage was filling up fast. I went and bought a 2TB 7200rpm hard drive
and a USB 3.0 enclosure. I installed all my XB1 games into the 2TB external and kept all X360 games in the 500GB internal -- to stay "organized" I guess. I've also noticed that games load slightly faster when loaded from the external (due to USB 3.0 bandwidth
    > SATA-II internal bandwidth), so that's always a good thing.

One more thing, hard drives shouldn't be dying that fast in your case. You aren't violently moving, shaking, or hitting your console... are you? You've just been having such unusually bad luck, that anyone could start to question, is all. Hard drives
are somewhat fragile components with moving, mechanical parts, so they can only take so much abuse before they die out.

Just my two cents to your two cents. So... four cents total?

    Hi again,

a HDD got a MTBF (mean time bevore failure) and this is strongly influenced by its use. The more data is moved, the more it decreases. I do not know an app to check the HDD at the console but the store is big.
