Xbox One - Black screen after startup

    Hi,

I have a major issue with my Xbox One and really hope someone can help me. When I start up my Xbox One, it enters into the usual green screen & Xbox logo , it gets pasts that, but then cannot go any further, it just then stays permanently black. It's the
transition to the home screen which isn't working.

I've tried every solving step that's possible, nothing has worked. I'm starting to think it is an internal malfunction and I'm now looking into a repair job from Microsoft. I've only had it 4 months, unbelievable really. The only thing I did do, was turn
off the console by the plug this morning and after that it went wrong, but Xbox Support said to me this wouldn't cause that kind of error. Very disappointed, it seemed as if Xbox Support were a little perplexed themselves.

Thoughts, advice, tips? any comments welcome

    Thanks.

    :)

    Black Screen After Startup

I am part of the Xbox Preview Program, so I believe I am on the newest update. This version of Xbox has a revamped Xbox Guide/Sidebar that includes things such as who has gained the most achievement points for the month (I haven't fully checked all of the
features out yet and also I am not sure when the update was rolled out. From a quick Google search, it seems like the update was a few days ago). I am not sure if most of the Xbox Community has the update.

I have talked about my issue, which will be discussed into detail later on, for over an hour with an Xbox Support Staff through text chat but was unable to resolve it and was diverted to the forums.

So my issue started when I powered on my Xbox. This was around five hours after I fully shut it down (holding the Xbox logo on the console for around 10 seconds) after a couple games of Rocket League. There was not an update going on at the time of shutting
it down. The normal, green Xbox startup screen came up when it started. After a few seconds, I was able to see "Hi (insert first name)!" on the bottom of the screen, indicating that the Xbox has logged me in. After this has occurred, all I was able to see
was a black screen. So to recap, I started Xbox, showed the green startup screen, went to a black screen and showed me being logged in at the bottom and then it stayed as a black screen.

There were only two things I was able to do. I was able to insert a disk into the Xbox. This loaded up the game so I can actually see the contents of the game, in this case, I loaded up FIFA 15 and was able to see the startup screen and do all of the other
things in the game. I tried to open up the Xbox Guide by double tapping the guide button but all that did was freeze the game for about 1/4ths of a second. The sidebar never showed up. The second thing I was able to do was hold the Xbox Guide button. That
gave me the basic options of shutting down the console/controller, report a problem, enable narration, etc. I turned on the narrator to see if it would work and it did, but turned it back off afterwards. I go and try to report a problem and when I click on
it, the Xbox tries to open a separate app and when it tries to do that, I receive "Sorry, that didn't work for some reason (0x80070002)".

When I told this part to the Xbox Support, I was given several possible solution that we tried out. First, I turned off the Xbox by holding down the Xbox logo for 10 seconds on the console, unplugged all of the cords and waited two minutes After that, I
plugged it back in and started up the console. Unfortunately, I was met with the same thing as previously stated. I saw the green startup screen, saw my name on the bottom indicating me logging in, and just stayed as a black screen afterwards. The individual
from Xbox Support suggested to try a different TV screen or monitor but I was unable to complete that task. Also, I believe that was not the issue, since I was able to see the contents of a game from the same TV.

So, as a summary, I am unable to see the Xbox Dashboard or the Xbox Guide/Sidebar, completely limiting my ability to use the console. I am only able to play games that I have a disk for. I can't see my feed, friends, games and apps, etc. Even after doing
the power cycle method, the problem still persists.

My speculation to this problem is that there could be a possible bug in the latest update that I received from the Xbox Preview Program that was overlooked. This bug has a small chance to cause a malfunction in the startup process of the Xbox One, where
it doesn't load the essential components that are needed to see the Xbox Dashboard and in turn, just shows a black screen.

All fixed and up & running now, thankfully. I think my issue was pretty major and slightly unknown to Xbox past issues - but we managed to open up (this morning) one of the options screens, and pressed factory default.

That has seemed to of fixed it entirely and I'm so happy. All the games, apps & the gamertag was all saved too is a real bonus too, I think there was an option for that. I was a bit worried because we started the reinstallation of that game today, and on
31% the console turned itself off. However, I found out my console was on 'Power up' mode meaning your console can contiune to install while you are off the console, I also found out the reason it turned itself off was because my 'auto turn off' if you like,
was on one hour, hence why it went off as the update was definitely longer than one hour. I've now set that to six hours auto turn off, meaning my console will now stay on until that update/download is fully complete.

To add to all that, I have also set up my Kinect sensor which arrived yesterday which is also great for what I need it for. You don't realise how important and great it is, until you do not have it for a bit. I thought it was going to have to be sent off
for repair, but luckily it's all fixed, it's great to have it back up and running again.

Xbox one original turns on no signal detected

    Hi Niteblew,

When you start the Xbox One console after rebooting, you expect to see the green Xbox startup animation screen. During the startup animation, your console runs a full system check on all hardware components, validating the firmware
and the operating system. This is very similar to the way a PC starts. The startup animation screen can take several minutes before transitioning to the next screen. If the system check fails to run the startup animation three times in a row, the console is
flagged by the system as “do not run.” This will block the startup animation from running, and in its place you'll see a black screen.

In order to determine your troubleshooting steps, after pressing the Xbox button you'll need to leave your console on this black screen for at least 10 minutes.
A black screen doesn’t always mean that there’s an error. The system checks described above run in the background and can take several minutes to complete. This may appear to be an error since you'll only see a black screen, but it can be completely normal
except for the absence of the green startup animation screen. If after 10 minutes the screen remains black, you should attempt an offline system update (OSU).

To use the Offline System Update, you'll need:

    • A Windows-based PC with an Internet connection and a USB port.
    • A USB flash drive with a minimum 6 GB of space formatted as NTFS.
Further instructions on how to complete an OSU and the required files to download can be found

    here
    .

If this also fails, then you would need to get a new console. I hope this helps!

Xbox one black screen after startup

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks for your message.

Unfortunately, I don’t have another TV monitor and when I plug the xbox into my laptop (a windows 10 newer HP model) it doesn’t display the xbox.

I only have one hdmi port on that laptop so it may only be an output hdmi.

Once I get a different laptop or monitor I’ll try again. In the mean time, do you know of anything else I can try?
