    xbox one backwards compatibilities

    hello,

I am new to all of this and when I call Xbox support with my idea they tell me to post it on the forum... so here I am with my idea.

so I was thinking about the backwards compatibilities with the Xbox one. why doesn't Microsoft have a small device the would plug into one of the usb ports on the Xbox one. the device would look like a dvd burner but have all the software to where it could
read the Xbox 360 games. maybe this "dvd Burner" looking device would come with a disc that would have an update on it or something so the Xbox one would know what It is. you wouldn't have to stream games over the internet which would be a step up from all
    the competitors.

    :)

Because the Xbox one is a different platform, it would take more than a small device to make it backwards compatible. For a start the processors have changed from IBM trash to AMD zacate based APUs, the operating system has also changed (I believe this is
a Windows 8 derived os, not the xp derived system that was used in the original Xbox and the 360s. You then then have to take into account that the Xbox one doesn't use IBMs compilers and is programmed differently. So without trying to sound like an *** you
could just connect your Xbox 360 to another hdmi port.... That's as backwards compatible.as it's going to.get though.

i don't think you sound like an ***. but i understand that they pretty much changed everything from the 360 to the xbox one. im says that that small "device" would have everything that the 360 has except the memory. i mean look at the ps2. when it first
came out it was huge. then they made another one which was so much smaller from the first one. why doesn't Microsoft do the same.

  6. They won't do it for the same reasons that Windows 95 games aren't compatible with Windows 8. They are totally different platforms, using different software compilers, different architectures and the cost of producing something like what you're suggesting
while it's not impossible would be higher than the price of a new Xbox 360. The other option would be even more expensive and would involve creating a custom emulator, which Nintendo proved to be useless as the compatibility issues still couldn't be overcome.

I get what you're saying but it's not ecconomically viable, too time consuming and would solve a problem that doesn't exhist for most of us because we still have the 360 that we run alongside the one.

You're talking about putting millions of dollars into something that wouldn't generate a return because legacy and retro gamers will keep hold of the old consoles. So to pump 20-30 million dollars at producing a system that allows for 360 games to be played
on the Xbox one is just madness.

If you want to use the old controllers with the Xbox one you can try the cronus max, but don't expect miracles and don't think that Microsoft will take a good view on it if you do.

As I said above the work that they would have to put in would be better spent elsewhere, and the money spent on improving the system in other ways. You're best off just wiring the old 360 up and being done with it buddy. It's not impossible but it's difficult
and expensive enough not to make it viable.

    Sorry bud

i see your point but i don't understand how it would be more expensive then having Xbox stream everything. the amount of servers and everything needed to have that run properly would seems to cost more than have a device made for the consumer to use at their
house. i think people would want something like this as they wouldn't be stuck having to be plugged into the internet to play an old game that they loved playing in the past. i mean yeah they could save their 360 but some people don't want to hang onto their
old systems. people would want everything on one device so that's why i came up with this idea.

as for different software stuff, people manage to run Mac OS on their Window OS computers. i think they call it "hackintosh" but that cannot be the hold back for a company like Microsoft.

I wasn't even aware that Microsoft were "streaming old games" I thought that was Sony. But in any case as an independant investment by all means look into it but in the bigger picture I know that every single person so far who bought an Xbox one that I know
anyway kept their 360s to game with other friends who cannot afford a one and I'm willing to bet that that's exactly what most of us did knowing that the release title selection would be small and have a low replayability.

So I personally still don't think it's viable because I still think it would be cheaper, easier, not to mention more complete than keeping the 360 or buying one second hand (from a retailer) than buying a device that in end effect will badly emulate a game
and controller producing buggy and glitchy game play.

Leave alone the fact that 99% of the games except the exclusives have been released for PC if you're really desperate.

It's different running software designed around an Intel compiler in a Unix platform on an uncertified Intel based desktop to trying to run software developed using a completely different architecture using compilers for IBM only using custom made hardware.

What your proposing in the end is like building a bicycle, bolting a combustion engine into it and then forgetting to reinforce the frame and fit the brakes..... It'll work..... Sort of but it won't work the way that either of which was originally intended
    to.

(That last bit probably made no sense)
