Xbox One back USB Ports

Hi there. A few days ago my son wanted to play Skylanders on our xbox one (original). It has a portal that's plugged into one of the back usb ports. When we started up the game , it said to connect the portal to the usb port. It had been working properly
a few weeks ago the last time we played it. We've never had this trouble before and he's played the game lots of times. We tried the other back port and it doesn't register on that one either. The side port has an external hdd connected to it with our games
are on it. I didn't try it in that port. We also have a lego game with a portal that plugs into a usb port and that doesn't register either. Yet both games worked a few weeks ago. I did a hard reset of the console, but does nothing. Some help would be appreciated.

How to connect the cables of your Xbox 360 Console

You must connect the cables properly to run your Xbox 360 Console.

Here is how:

Original Xbox 360 console

• First, you need to plug one end of the cable into the USB port on the back of the console and the other end into an electrical outlet.
• If you have a wireless networking adapter, plug it into the USB port on the front of the console by using the supplied USB extension cable.
• Connect all other USB accessories to USB ports on the front of the console.

Note: You'll have to purchase a power/USB cable if your want to connect the Kinect sensor which you have bought with an Xbox 360 S Console, to an Original Xbox 360 console.

Xbox 360 S console

• In Xbox 360 S console, the Kinect sensor cable does not need to be attached with a power plug. So disconnect the power plug portion of the cable if it is attached with a power plug.
• You need to plug the sensor cable into the AUX port on the back of the console.

 

Xbox one External Drives Through USB adapter?

Well then your HDD is USB2.0. The Xbox One only supports USB 3 HDD

 

Have you tried plugging the external drive to the back ports to see if it shows up? If it doesn't there is possibly a problem with the back USB ports.

 

I tired the hdd in one of the back ports and it works fine. So, I don't know why the two games don't work on the back connections.

 

Hmm have you tried to move the HDD to the back and see if the portals work on the side?

 

I moved the HDD to the back port and tried the skylanders portal on the side usb and it still doesn't work. I guess there's something wrong with the portals for the 2 games. At least I know the usb ports on my xbox one are okay.

 

Just to cover all bases:

Are the portals for the Xbox One specifically, or were these portals bought for the Xbox 360 version of Skylanders or Lego Dimensions?

The Xbox 360 versions of the portals don't work on the Xbox One.

 

Both games are the Xbox One versions.

 

I emailed Activision with my problems and they sent me a new Skylanders portal for free. I got it today , and it works perfectly so thankfully the portal was the problem.
