Xbox one auto-update feature....

there is a setting for "Instant-on" to automatically update your Xbox and games when an update becomes available, as long as you are connected to the Internet the Xbox should turn on and update itself. This feature has never worked for me and I am not sure
why. My games and system have never auto-updated even though I have the settings turned on and my Xbox is always connected (wired) to the Internet. I have been wanting to use this setting so I can have my games updated and ready to go when I get off work,
but always seem to have to update them when I get home.

Is there something I am missing? Not doing? or are others having this problem as well?

Xbox One Installing Game Updates

I've never read that the Xbox One is supposed to perform game updates in standby ?

As far as I'm aware the auto update feature is for console updates.

 

Xbox One Automatic Annoying Updates

Seems like its either not downloading the updates while you have the XB1 off or you are leaving it on in which case its not going to update until you turn it off your message isnt entirely clear in that regard. Considering you said you "normally do not turn my Xbox One however"

If you turn the XB1 off with auto update on it will update. If you dont turn the XB1 off it will never auto update you will have to manually do it.

Auto Update is a feature that is used when the Xbox is off but still in that low lower state. It doesnt work when the XB1 is on.

It could just be that you don't have the relevant option selected, even though its in "Instant On" mode, doesn't mean that it will automatically download updates, you need to select that option from the settings menu.

If that doesn't work, I would suggest switching the setting to "Engery Saving" then giving you console a power cycle (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console), then
once you've done that, go back into the settings and turn the Instant On feature back on. That should hopefully fix it

I have the same problem and have switched to energy saving and back again and it still doesn't work for me
