xbox one audio issue (headset dominance)

Hi all. I'm a new xbox one owner. I've so far played just a few gaming sessions (Halo 5 via live gold) with a friend in the UK (also an xbox one owner), and we have a problem. We've searched the internet for a fix, but none have worked for us so far. I'm
hoping the infinite wisdom of the Microsoft community can resolve this. We appreciate your suggestions.

I'm using a gaming headset (HyperX Cloud Stinger). He's using an xbox one chat headset. Both headsets plug directly into the wireless controller. The problem is we can only hear from one microphone at a time. If both headsets are plugged in, I can hear him
but he can't hear me. If he unplugs his headset, then he can hear me but obviously I can't hear him. We switch back and forth during play, him plugging his headset in to speak then unplugging so he can hear my response. Even when his mic is plugged in and
he can't hear me, he tells me the ring around my avatar indicates my signal is still getting through, though unheard. We've tried playing both in and out of a 'party' but that doesn't make a difference. Obviously neither of us is muted. Obviously both headsets
are working. Our controllers have been updated. We don't know what else to try.

Have either of you checked your network NAT status? If you are both "open" that won't be the issue, but if one or both of you are "Moderate" or "Strict" it can affect the ability to chat. I would start there. If you are both "open" on NAT then try the
remaining options here.

This sounds like a NAT issue, Alternatively you could check to make sure both headsets don't need an update or additional firmware installed. Same with the controllers.

Sorry to hear about the audio issue! Is your headset plugged into the optical audio port on the Xbox One console or in our Stereo Headset Adapter through the controller?

Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry to hear about the issue with audio settings for a headset.

In order to receive the audio settings through the Xbox, you will need to plug in the headset to the controller. Once you connect the headset to the controller you will be able to change any audio settings such as the Party chat volume. Unfortunately, when
you connect the headset to the tv you will only receive the audio from the TV.

Just tested this and it will work.

Xbox One connected to a monitor using an HDMI Cable. Set the Display settings to DVI. Meaning no audio is being transferred over the cable. Attached Headset Audio adapter to an updated xbox one controller and plugged in the Xbox One Stereo headset to the
adapter, got Stereo sound on the headset without any issues.
