1. Xbox One audio channel decoding failures

About two days ago I started noticing that the audio on my console was off. I started up a Netflix show and the speech wasn't coming through properly. I had to manually select "English" instead of "English 5.1" to get the audio to come through - I believe
that throws the audio into stereo. I played with the audio settings and had always had no trouble running 5.1 uncompressed or BitStream out with either HDMI or optical. I moved my Xbox One to my roommate's 2.1 system with a receiver to see if it was my speakers.
No good, there were still issues with hearing speech, which suggests that the center channel decoding isn't processing correctly.

Anyone else experiencing this? I have a strong feeling this is a fault on the console since multiple cables and speaker setups produced the same issues.

:)

Any Matrix does Encoding/Decoding, IceStorm III... As 5.1/7.1 Channels, are being encoded on to 2 channels for a Stereo Headset Playback, as it encodes discrete channels to simulate 5.1/7.1 channel Audio over 2 Speakers when decoding etc...

Need help with 5.1 over HDMI

If Cutting & Pasting something from the Official Sony AVR Document isn't good enough for you IceStorm III... Shove It...

And what does it "Specifically" state as the heading for the second column on page 59...???

"Multi channel audio after decoding" and if you understood what was stated above, that would be 2 channel Stereo into Multi channel audio...
Any Matrix does Encoding/Decoding
The "Matrix" in this case is encoded at the source and
decoded on the MixAmp.
As 5.1/7.1 Channels, are being encoded on to 2 channels
No, they are not being encoded onto two channels. Encoding specifically connotes that the original multi-channel audio still exists in the two channel
form. That's not the case here. Once it goes through Dolby Headphone there's no provision to decode the two channel output back into its original multi-channel source.

Dolby Headphone is processing. It is not encoding.

This whole HDMI bitrate vs 7.1 uncompressed is driving me nuts?!?! What is the best/correct setting?!?!

I don't agree with a few of the posts on here regarding Bitstream & PCM... PCM is two channel uncompressed audio while bitstream is the RAW signal as it's being stripped from the source material - you should pretty much ALWAYS select bitstream - as that
will give you the native RAW data stream. Example: If you buy movies on "Xbox Video" from the Xbox Store and it's saaved on your Xbox in HD - if you're set to PCM the audio will be down-mixed to 2.0 and your decoder (Surround Receiver) with then have to sum-to-mono
to create a center channel audio as well as fabricate surround data / however: if you set your Xbox to bitstream then your decoder (Surround Receiver) will get discrete muti-channel audio / and that is a HUGE advantage

Selecting "Uncompressed 5.1" or "Uncompressed 7.1" in the Xbox One settings will mathematically give you the same lossless audio results as long as you are using an AVR with HDMI 1.3a or later spec. The only difference is that the Xbox One is doing the decoding
of the audio rather than passing the un-decoded audio steam to your receiver to handle the decoding.

I suppose, theoretically, it could improve the Xbox One's performance because it's not having to use any CPU cycles for the audio decoding. But you're not going to hear any difference as long as you are using and HDMI cable to connect to your AVR.

Are you watching videos with 5.1 audio? Could be the decoder not being able to integrate the sub channel into stereo. If so simply select dolby stereo instead.
